I've been thinking about seeing an allergist due to my continuing sinus
problems.
But I wonder what good that will do???
My image is that an allergist will do some sort of skin test, find out I'm
allergic to all kinds of stuff, and then what????
Am I sadly mistaken? Is it possible I might find the key to my sinus
problems??
If I see an allergist should that be done before going the CT Scan route?

I would have the CT but also see an allergist. But before you make an
appointment, find out how rapidly the allergist desensitizes you with
weekly shots. If more than three months or 6 months at most, keep
doctor shopping.

I see an ENT who is board certified in allergy. Allergy shots and Hydropulse
irrigation have been the two most valuable tools in controlling my chronic
sinusitis. After a year of allergy shots I underwent additional testing for
some different molds which were not tested for initially. I now take two
allergy shots but only need them every three weeks in order to maintain my
current desensitization level. AW

If you are continuing to improve on the antibiotic then you may not
need a CT scan at this time, but you could schedule an appointment with
an ENT just in case. Sometimes it takes weeks to months to get in to
see one. Seeing an allergist would definitely be worthwhile. It may
or may not be your problem, but if so, desensitization shots to the
offending allergens may be all that is needed. Unfortunately,
allergy shots did not help me, but they have helped a lot of other
people.

Mel,
I was very long winded in another reply to your question about
immunotherapy, so I'll be short and sweet on this one: Go get tested
for allergies. It's done me a world of good.

It's possible, but it's also possible that your sinus problems are
anatomical (see below).
> If I see an allergist should that be done before going the CT Scan route?
No!!!
I keep trying to explain that once your sinuses become physically
blocked, no treatment will work unless the blockage can be removed. The
blockage will prevent oxygen from getting into the sinus and prevent
mucus from draining out, and it will be a permanent breeding ground for
infection that will cause yet more inflammation and blockage--a vicious
cycle.
Your first priority is to determine the condition of your sinuses and
get an accurate diagnosis of their condition. That means a CT scan
interpreted by a competent ENT.
Once your sinuses are treated, if you have allergies, then it will be
important to get them treated. Your ENT may even suggest allergy
testing to you if he believes it may help. How you respond to steroid
therapy may be a clue, since steroids will help block the allergic response.
In my case, allergy testing was useless. Whatever I'm allergic to, it
didn't show up in the allergy tests. I've had three different sets of
tests by three different allergists and the results were all negative.
They only test you for maybe 6 different strains of mold, yet in New
England where I live there are hundreds of different strains.

Steven:
I am starting to feel quite a bit better.
I've been taking the Biaxin XL as well as the steroids (nasonex).
I guess I can't tell really if the steroids or the antibiotic is doing the
trick, but I suspect the antibiotic.
I will be on the abx for 3 weeks total.
I'm planning on staying on the spray during that time and maybe a bit after
that. I'm using nasonex twice a day.

Mel,
Did the doc prescribe 2x a day for the Nasonex. I've always only been
prescribed two sprays, once a day.
