Have already done amoxicillan.
I might have to see doctor Monday as all symptoms (including bronchitis) are
returning.
Any thoughts about renewing the amoxicillan vs. zithromax vs. ????

The ENT guidelines are to use Augmentin or a quinolone if a patient has
been on antibiotics within 6 weeks. That said, they also say that is
someone is allergic, zithromax or biaxin can be considered.
The dose of Amoxicillin is crucial: with resistant strep pneumonia,
it's dose dependent, so high doses of amoxicillin can overcome
intermediate resistance: in kids we've gone from 40mg/kg to 80-90mg/kg.
Augmentin XR gives 4 gms of the amoxicllin component a day (it did come
to market because augmentin went generic--for a cheaper copay, you can
get Augmentin 875mg--generic--and add amoxicillin--generic--up to a
total of 4gm/day of the amoxicillin component.
The guidelines are just that-to guide rational prescribing, but
different individuals respond depending on their infectious agents and
the load of bacteria present.
I have previously used the Sanford Guide to antibiotics, which is a
cheap liitle book updated yearly, or the Johns Hopkins guide to
antibiotics which is a free download for PDA's.
The national society of otolaryngology periodically releases guides
to the treatment of acute sinusitis.
Feel better.
Also, hydration and irrigation can really help clear things up,

Zithromax is a good antibiotic; comparable in effectiveness to Biaxin
but with fewer drug interactions with other drugs.
The downside of Zithromax is the dosing. The manufacturer packages it
in a 5-day dose, which is just not enough to knock out stubborn sinus
infections. The manufacturer claims that its long half-life means it's
still in your body for another 3 days, but even 8 days isn't enough.
If you can get enough Zithromax for 2-3 weeks from your doctor, then it
can be a decent choice.
