I do it every time I irrigate (in addition to the standard procedure of
in one nostril, and out the other.). ...I breathe the water in through
the one nostril, and spit it out through my mouth. ...If my other
nostril is completel plugged, I'll simply hold the tip loosely against
the nostril, and draw the air in along with the salt solution. ...Jon

If you can it is better to open the other side - you can use a Vick's or
Benzedrex inhaller. You need the irrigation to the blocked side to get the
most benefit.

I had to deal with having only one nostril open for years. i was able
to open the other nostril by spraying Afrin in the closed nostril. In
order not to overuse Afrin, I limited my dosage to only one spray in
the problem nostril. That opened it. I started to have PND until the
affected nostril totally drained out. This would take a couple of
hours for this to happen.
