Sorry folks, I know this topic has been done to death lately, but I
would like to clarify what goes where.

For a spray mixture, I mixed 25ml pf water with one teaspoon of
xylitol.

Is this correct?  Do I need to add salt?

For the wash solution, which I have not yet tried (have a
concussion...should I be irrigating?), it's 4 teaspoons of xylitol for
every CC of saline saline solution.

Do I have it right?

Thanks.

Uh, no that sounds like an awful lot of xylitol, if I'm reading you right.

I briefly used a very strong saline/xylitol spray, and it seemed to
loosen crud from my sinuses, but after several days, it irritated my
nose and caused bleeding.

Here's what I mix up without actually measuring:

2 cups kosher salt
1 tsp to a TBS of baking soda
1-2 TBS xylitol
a TBS of calcium chloride salt substitute if I have any in the house

Use on tsp of this mixture for two cups of water to make a solution for
any purpose.

Sorry to hear about your head injury.  I don't know if you should
irrigate or not, have you consulted a neurologist about it?

Feel better.

when i first tried it, i used a very heavy concentration without salt(see
below from a previous posting).  after this i have used it with near equal
amounts of xylitol and salt, 1/2 tsp of each to 4 cups boiled water.  i
still am not sure if i am feeling any benefit from the xylitol.

mixed up a batch last night--i irrigate with a neti pot and typically do
4 cups water to 1/2 teaspoon salt.  last night, using the mixture from
the
"biofilms" thread (3 tablespoons or 45 ml of 100% pure xylitol in 250 ml
of
water) i caluculated that i would need over 9 tablespoons of xylitol (4
cup
[US] = 946.352 95 milliliter).  i used about 8 tablespoons.  it burned
like
crazy without the salt.

afterwards, i brought up lots of thick clear jelly-like mucous but it
seems to me that i was bringing up what i was putting in.  was i creating
this mucous with the xylitol mixture?  this lasted for hours.  when i lay
down to go to sleep more came out --- "steeping?" and i ended up
irrigating with my salt misture to try to push the stuff out.

I used my original spray solution without any problems for a day.  This
morning, I added salt and baking soda to the solution and it really
stung!

basic principles would be--are you willing to put this mixture into your
eye?--keep thing no more complicated than normal saline--you are dealing
with a very sensitive mucosal lining ( the nose) and you dont want to damage
it--
