I have had a bad sinus headache for several days. I live in FL and get
them when the weather changes or gets very bad, like it is right now.
Thunderstorms for several days.
I am taking an anti-inflamatory and decogestant/antihistamine. I am
also using saline nasal spray (generic from CVS).
Nothing is helping. Of course it is a holiday and all dr's offices are
closed.
Anyone know of helpful advice I haven't tried for some relief?
Thanks

Unfortunately, the spray you are using probably contains benzalkonium and
might the reason why your medicatons don't work. Try hot tea to get the
cilia moving.
I cant get over the impression that health providers in Florida have worse
sinus problems than elsewhere.

The only thing that helps me with my sinus pain is a Aleve and very warm
tea.
If I use a nasal spray I can only use Simply Saline.
As the other salines all have that Benz. which Dr Murray mentioned. My
nasal membranes burn and bleeds.

Shirleyann thanks for bringing up the benzalkonium. It really is
discouraging to me that at least once or more/week I see patients whose ONLY
problem is the reaction to the benzalkonium in their OTC saline spray.
PLEASE review the FAQ re making your own saline.

Regular nasal irrigation works well for me. Saline nasal spray is
nowhere near as effective. If you already have those little CVS saline
nasal spray bottles, make your own saline solution, fill the bottles and
squirt (don't spray) the entire contents up your nose. Repeat enough
times to get at least 8 ounces through each nostril.
