Hi.
Sinus issues since childhood. Now 42yo. 4x sinus surgeries. Last
one at tail end of '05.
Antibiotics thrown at me like snacks throughout childhood by a couple
of well-meaning docs. Not better? Take these ... take them for a
month instead ... ok, take these (familiar?).
Kept having problems.
Cut to the end of the story. In my case, even traditional medicine is
starting to believe that I have some sort of an issue processing the
omnipresent yeasty-beasties. Call it a systemic fungal infection or
don't. It is what it is: foot fungus, hand fungus, other skin issues,
the "cloudy thinking," fatigue, sinus infections.
When it hits, it ALL hits. When it's gone, it's ALL gone.
When is it gone? After systemic antifungals. I've tried, and
responded well to, Sporanox and Diflucan in the past.
For eye issues, though, I was put on 2mos of Doxycycline earlier this
year. Bam. It all came back. Back on the Sporanox. It's starting
to get better.
How 'bout that, huh?
As to MY regimen, I've cut way back on -- but need to nearly entirely
eliminate -- sugar and refined flour products and other junk food
(duh?).
I use the WaterPik with the Grossan adaptor. I was using just the
saline mix with 10 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract, but I've just
started adding 10-12 drops of undiluted 35% food grade hydrogen
peroxide.
I'll be flying to Europe soon. If you're like me, that's reason for
anxiety. I'm throwing everything at it I can right now, including
juicing fresh veggies every day for dinner, using the little facial
steamer, getting copious vigorous exercise, and taking just about as
much Vitamin C as my li'l body will tolerate.
I'll hit the Sudafed for the plane ride, and will bring a bottle of
GSE + H2O2 + Saline on the plane with me, too.
I will henceforth scrupulously avoid any antibiotics that are not
deemed necessary to save my life from now on. My wife is a former ER
nurse. She's going to sanity check "need" for me ;-)
I know the whole concept of "systemic fungal infections in
immunocompetent people" is HIGHLY controversial, but ... I also see
that the Merck Manual has softened its position, and that much of
conventional medicine is coming around to a different view. We/you
all know about the Mayo study. Maybe it's flawed, but is it *wrong*?
Not in my body ... at least I don't think so.
UCSD's Dr. Davidson doesn't seem to think so, either. He's my
treating ENT these days.
Think about it for you. Does it make sense? Can you accomplish the
lifestyle changes that are usually recommended? Have you tried either
Rx or herbal means to control fungi? Should you??
I can't preach. I can't say with certainty what I do have going on
inside me. I CAN, however, say how I've improved my symptoms,
dramatically, several times where nothing else has worked.
Coincidence? Not very likely.
I wish you all the best. This sinus stuff sucks, huh?

Not just sugar and refined flour; any starch, whether whole grain or
not, will feed the fungal beasts. Have you ever had your post meal
blood glucose tested, like one hour after eating? Try replacing starch
in your diet with fibrous and colorful veggies. Your nutrition will be
much better, and you may have significant reduction in your fungal load.
I used to have systemic candidiasis all the time, but I never do
anymore, even on high doses of antibiotics; cutting the glycemic load of
my diet made the difference.

Interesting, Susan, and thanks!
Any other intake tips that you've had luck with and wouldn't mind
sharing? Do's or don'ts....
Feel free to answer with "search the newsgroup" if you've done this
one to death. I'm fairly able at stuff like that ;-)

I'd limit fruits, too, and starchy veggies, in favor of high fiber,
lower carb ones. These tend to be the most nutrient and antioxidant
dense, whereas starches are pro oxidation.
