If you have chronic or recurrent sinusitis and you do not tolerate oral
antibiotics very well, ask your ENT about mixing Bactroban 2% ointment
in Ocean saline nasal spray.  It works great for me!  Make sure your
doctor prescribes regular Bactroban ointment and NOT "Bactroban Nasal"
ointment.  The nasal variety is in a parafin base and does not dissolve
in saline.  The regular Bactroban ointment is in a water soluble base
that mixes very well with saline.  One 22 gram tube of ointment will
make you four bottles of antibiotic spray (44 ml each).  If you have
ever had colitis or c-dif caused by oral antibiotics in an attempt to
treat a sinus infection, you have to try this Bactroban nasal spray
(that you mix yourself).  It works great for me, and my ENT says that I
can use it up to ten months a year as a preventative even after my
sinus infection is completely gone.  I hope this info is helpful to the
people who read it.

Personally I'd be afraid of becoming immune to the Bactroban by using it
when you didn't have an active infection. I've had good results using
intransal Bactroban, but I'd never use it prophylactically.  The new Teva
generic mixes up easily also.    AW

There have been studies on staph in the nose, and it rapidly becomes
resistant to bactroban. However, I use it on a q-tip when I have low
grade symptoms, and it has worked wonderfully.
