I had my Fess surgery a week ago due to large nasal polyps and
re-occurring infections and also having no sense of smell for the last
2 years. I had put off the surgery once, but decided on going ahead
with the surgery after 3 separate lots of antibiotics would not shift
my last infection. The surgery lasted over an hour and once I awoke I
felt relieved but very ill, soon after i vomited alot of blood that had
drained into my stomach, after doing this I felt a great deal better. I
had none or very little pain after the surgery and was prescribed
Sterimar Saline Nasal Spray, Augementin antibiotics, Betnesol steroid
drops and Prednisolone steroid tablets (these I did not take). After 7
days of medication my sense of smell has recovered (though not fully) I
do not have any infection, my nose cavity does feel 'empty' and I can
feel cold air running through it when I breathe. I have a couple of
questions
1. Should I now stop taking the nose drops ( I have read not too simply
stop taking them but to reduce slowly)
2. How many times a day should I use the Saline spray
3 Should I rinse with the saline spray or use a dropper and drop it in.
Thank you

Post-operative care is very dependent on the particular surgeon and the
particular type of surgery you had.
If your surgeon didn't explain post-operative care to you in detail
(including the frequency of dosing of steroid drops and how often to
irrigate, follow-up visits, etc.), please call your surgeon or his nurse
and have them go over it with you in detail. And follow his
instructions to the letter.
