White mucous and turbinates questions

Hi,

I posted before about my sinus problem. My first sinus infection at the
start of January has now cleared. I am however still troubled by the
ear fullness sensation on my right ear. It is not as bad as before but
I would really wish to get rid of this problem.

It seems that I am now producing quite a bit of sticky egg-white mucous
and clear mucous. I have had this white mucous before for some years
but I am now noticing an increased production. I feel that this mucous
is causing my ear fullness problem. The reason being that after a hot
shower or warm towel compress over the sinus region, I can get the
mucous out through my nose or spit it out which then immediately
alleviates the ear fullness feeling.

I would like to know if the white mucous production is the result of
chronic inflammation of the sinuses, especially the turbinates. Could
my inferior turbinates be chronically swollen so that they are blocking
my eustachian tube or producing too much mucous?

Has my sinusitus progressed to an advanced stage already? My ENT said
my CT scans looked clear. However, I did have the scan 30 minutes after
he used the endoscope and administer some anesthetic in my nose. Could
this have made a difference?

I know I have dust mite allergies and have taken steps to reduce my
exposure but it isn't really helping. I can still breathe and sleep at
night but I do notice nasal congestion in both nostrils through the
day. Also, at night when sleeping, one side seems to be blocked when
sleeping on my side.  I have been irrigating for a month or so. I was
using the Rhinocort spray for a while but stopped and am now using it
again.

Sorry for being so long-winded. I hope someone can help me out with
some of my questions.

Thanks,
Chris

In my experience the white mucous is due to drainage of pus that had stagnated.
If it is white, it is not (very) infected.

It may clear with time if it is just the remnants of the prior infection..
Otherwise you could be in the ealry stages of inflammtion that might lead to
sinisitis eventually.

No - sinusitis would show if it were there.  SO you can be faily confident that
you do not have advanced sinusitis.

That's not uncommon.....

Really you can't just cure mild symptoms without fixing the underlying causes.

You probably need to further  reduce allergen and irritant exposure.

Thanks Don for your help,

The thing is, I can remember having the white pus for years already. I
think it was at a reduced amount and not causing any trouble before.
But after the infection, it seems to have gone into overdrive. Any way
to fix this?

Do you think I should still be using the Rhinocort nasal spray? Also,
when is the best time to use this spray? I find that because of my
mucous, the spray does not go too far into my sinuses. After
irrigating, there is still liquid in my sinuses. Should I wait an hour
or so after irrigating before using the spray? Or maybe after a hot
shower which clears out my mucous?

About reducing allergens. I have put on dust mite covers on my bedding,
pillows etc. I now wash my covers every week in hot water.  I have
hard-floors in my house. I am going to replace my curtains and remove
most items from my bedroom. Are these measures adequate?
Do you think allergy shots or sublingual mouth drops are beneficial?
I'm particularly interested in the oral drops because of the
convenience. Have you any experience with them?

Regards,
Chris

Maybe just the passage of time as everything cleans out.

Irrigation should help.

>Do you think I should still be using the Rhinocort nasal spray?

No reason why not.

It does nto matter, but some say before bed.

Others have more expereince with irrigation and may comment.

That does sound impressive.

Have you checed for thyroid level and white blood cell morphology  in case of
an immune issue.

Thay can be helpful although they never really helped me.

I have not.  Does anyoneele here have experience with them?

Do I need to request this specific blood test? I've had regular blood
tests before which did not find anything abnormal with me.
