If its a foreign body the same procedure for taking a biopsy would allow you
to remove it. Besides, hard to take a biopsy if it is a needle. Or a screw.
I believe there was a misunderstanding about "facial paralysis". I believe
the nurse might have said injury to a facial nerve, meaning the infraorbital
nerve that gives feeling to the cheek. But the trochar is place to avoid
such a complication.
One of the confusions here is that this is not a Caldwell Luc procedure, but
most of the references talk about this.

Dr. Grossan,
Thanks for your reply.
Apart from the foreign body, it seems that my left maxillary sinus is filled
with something that looks like infection or fungus.
My surgeon said that he will make 3-4 cm. incision under my upper lip and
will try to clean it up. I am however worried about consequences of such a
big incision and since I do not have any other symptoms or problems with my
sinus not sure if it is worth having this operation done on the first place.
