Irrigating and post nasal drip

Per my ENT's advice I started irrigating on a daily basis to deal with
my post nasal drip problem.  And I'm glad I've picked up this habit,
it's really helped my nose feel cleaner and less stuffy.  On the other
hand, it's never eliminated my pnd problem.  As a matter of fact, I
notice that I usually get pnd after irrigating.  I do try to blow the
solution out and do get the delayed run-out sometimes, but I still get
pnd.  Is this the norm?

Yes.

Unfortunately, for me it often happens much later on in the day.  Today
I was grooming a horse and other people were around and as I bent down
saline started streaming out.

I don't think anyone noticed; I kept my head down and grabbed a tissue
from my pocket.

Sorry, I meant getting post nasal drip from irrigating rather than the
dripping saline solution.  Yeah, I've had a couple of embarrassing
situations myself...yoga class...

I usually remember to lean over or lie down on my left side to drain it
before I go anywhere.

Your PND afterward may just be due to loosening of the stuff
accumulating.  I still have PND, too, but it's looser and thinner.

I've never experienced a delayed saline purge like that, but have read
here that it happens to many people.  I have a perforated septum, so I'm
sure that some (most?) of the saline rinse is going through that hole.
I wonder if because of that hole, the solution doesn't go up as far as
it should.  Hmmm...

Please state what you mean by irrigation. All irrigation is not the same.
For example, pulsatile irrigation pulses at a rate to maximize cilia
movement.

I use an AYR Saline Rinse bottle.

If you want to get all the saline out after you irrigate you need to blow
your nose upside down (these sinuses drain "UP").  What I do is sit down on
the toilet, bend all the way over so your head it upside down, wait about 10
seconds and have about 5-6 Kleenex ready.  You should no longer have the
"delayed saline stream" problem again.

Maybe that's what you have to do, but it doesn't always work for me.
Lying down and turning on my left side sometimes will.  Other times it
all comes out.

I have frequently had saline drain out hours later, no matter how much
I keep my head down after irrigating or blow my nose.

In fact, the saline once showed up on a CT scan as I had it an hour
after irrigating. The fluid was noted on the radiologist's report. I
could hear it sloshing around during the procedure.

Yep, the exact same thing happened to me.

When I go for a CT scan or endoscopy now, I don't irrigate beforehand
that day.  I want the radiologist and ENT to see my "virgin sinuses"
with all the secretions that are supposed to be there and none of the
saline solution that isn't.  The only time my ENT was able to get a good
sinus culture was when I didn't irrigate the crap out of my sinuses
beforehand.
