I have had three endoscopic surgeries to remove my ethmoids and to
increase the ostia to the maxillaries. The surgeries helped
tremendously in relieving my symptoms of facial pain, headaches, deep
pain behind the eyes, and chronic inflammation in my throat. However,
I still have these symptoms but to a lesser severity.  I have tried
numerous therapies offered by my ENT and internist.  This includes
antibiotics (oral and IV), anti-inflammatory medications, all types of
nasal sprays and sinus washes. One clearly visible symptom is a
localized area in the back of my throat which is inflammed (on th left
side). This area of inflammation corresponds with the drainage path of
the sphenoid sinuses.  My CT scans look fairly normal.  I am convinced
that the problem is caused by diseased sphenoid sinuses, however, i
cannot convince my ENT to go ahead and remove them.  (We have tried
everything else).  It could not be caused by my ethmoids, because he
has already completely removed those.  Interestingly, he removed my
ethmoids, even though my CT scan looked normal, based on my clinical
symptoms. But he wont do this for my sphenoids.  He has told me that
sphenoid sinusitis causes headaches in the back or top of the head,
but not the front.  I dont have back or top of head headaches.  I dont
think his assertion is correct, as i have checked out the internet and
several sources say that sphenoid sinusitis can cause deep pain behind
the eyes (which is what i have).  I am really suffering and trying to
get this monkey off my back.  Can anyone recommend an ENT who has
experience removing sphenoid sinuses.  I live in New Orleans, but
willing to travel to solve my problem.

Can you clarify what you mean by "remove" sinuses.

Sinuses are empty holes and passageways in the bony structure of the head.

Do you want to fill them in or to remove the bony structures around them?  Or
to open up the openings to them?

Remove as much of the bony structure of the sinus around them as
possible.  I dont think that increasing the openings would be
effective, as I believe the bone tissue itself is diseased.  When he
did the ethmoidectomies, he removed as much ethmoid bone as possible.
I hope this answers your question. Thanks for your attention.  Any
help would be appreciated.

RIght I do not know whether you can do that with the sphenoids.   I doubt it,
since they are deep in the head.

We can see what others here say.......
