Amphotericin B: Part 2:  Irrigation

Hi folks,

Gee, quite a stir over my initial Amphotericin B post, eh?  Well, I've
been irrigating (or trying to) for the last few days, and I'm still
alive. ;-)

Anyhow, I am a stranger to irrigation techniques.  And I feel I've got
to be doing this wrong.  I've looked on the FAQ under irrigation and
such, but this isn't exactly addressed (more into saline irrigation),
so here goes:

First of all, I'm using an ear syringe they sent along with the
medicine.  The instructions say to stand over a sink, tilt your head
slightly  to the left, insert the tip (which has drawn up 20 ml) of
the syringe as far as it can comfortably go, aiming for the back of
the left eye.  Then spray the bulb fully until empty.  Afterward, keep
the head tilted to the left for about 30 seconds.

Problems:  not all of the solution goes in my nose, some, no a lot,
splashes out on my shirt, or goes down my throat.  Frustrating.  Also,
everywhere else I've read to tilt your head in the *opposite* (in the
case above to the right) so it drains out the other nostril.

Should I have my head almost face down facing the sink in the bowl to
do this?  Should I tilt my head to the opposite side?  Also, for those
who know of this, it suggests warming the stuff to room temperature.
In the morning, I don't have time, and since it has to be refrigerated
in the meantime, what's the best fastest way of warming it?

I'm going to call the lab pharmacy tomorrow and ask these questions,
but I consider the ones who have used this medicine correctly and have
helped folks like me the *experts*, really.  Thanks.

After you fill the ear syringe, just run the syringe under a stream of
very warm water from your faucet, taking care not to get the faucet
water into the syringe.

If I were the patient, as an Ear Nose Throat specialist who knows the
anatomy, I would not be able to figure out a way to do this irrigation with
an ear syringe so that it gets into the sinuses, much less keep it from
going down my throat - where it would be absorbed ( which is  undesireable )
. Frankly, your money is being wasted.
For your purpose, I suggest you go to the library, check out The Sinus Cure
by Debra Bruce and pages 119 and 120 are instructions on using the Proetz
method of instilling medication into the sinuses. And you won't get it into
your throat either.
I suggest you copy those pages and send it to the lab pharmacy too.

Ok, I tried a different method by bending my head farther.  It worked
much better.  At least I could feel the stuff go into my sinuses.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.  Do you mean the Ampho B or not
being able to irrigate correctly?

I checked the library system and requested a copy be shipped to my
local library.  Hopefully, it'll come by the weekend.  There was a
random electronic page which I read, and it looked helpful. Thanks for
the heads up (or heads down) :-)

Oh the Ampho is a great drug, but it must be delivered correctly.

Micowave in measuring cup 8 seconds ( depending on microwave).

Lie on back on bed. Keep double sheets of paper towels.

Insert, inject, swish around for five -ten minutes. Expel.
