Anyone else taking Niacin for the cholesterol lowering and triglyceride
effect notice the significant reduction in allergy/histamine symptoms?

Since I have been taking Niacin at 100mg after each meal three times a
day I have not needed to take Allegra any longer for the milder allergy
symptoms.  I wonder exactly why and could not find any medical research
on the topic at all.

I am guessing that since the Niacin needs to be titrated up to the
point just below causing the flush side effect that it is using up the
bodies usual high load of histamines.  It is my understanding that the
red faced flush and mild itching is due to a mild histamine response
when the body first hits niacin saturation.

It needs noted that I also take a chewable adult Centrum multi-vitamin
once a day as well.

I will know in a few more months if the Niacin has made any difference
on my actual cholesterol levels as the initial target dose was 300mg
daily as my actual total cholesterol level was only a marginal 214.
Since I changed my diet considerably, no partially hydrogenated oils,
my triglycerides have fallen to much lower risk levels.  The
cholesterol change will not be seen as I just titrated up to the 300mg
level with expected future increases to 600mg daily.

If only my sleep apnea could be cured so my blood pressure would stay
low all the time.  CPAP at the maximum setting is still not strong
enough to get past my closure at the soft palate and tonsils during
sleep.  Even during the day if I had a slightest allergy problem it
would completely close up at that point.  I have less than 40mm2
opening area at that point and the small opening is 1.78cm long.
Research indicates that people with less than 50mm2 have an 80% greater
problem with OSA and UAR than people with a normal sized opening 120mm2
average.

Since 1996- my doctor and I agreed to try Niacin for my high LDL
cholesterol.
I take Slo-Niacin, its timed released, no flushing at all. This is the
only brand that works for me.

I take a 500. mg (which is the mgr, that I buy) in the morning after
breakfast and a 500 mgr. after dinner.
My last cholesterol reading by  fasting overnight- 93 LDL, 72 HDL, Tri?
under 100. BP 100/70. I get blood tests done every 6 months.

I take 1200 calcium a day and found if I took the last dose of calcium
(600) a couple of hours before I go to sleep that I sleep through the
night.

Before this I would sleep 2 to 4 hrs and had a hard time getting to
sleep at night.
