Will Hydro Pulse Irrigation work for me?

Hi,

I am a 29 year old male. Only recently had an allergy test and was
allergic to dust mites and house dust. I believe I have a history of
sinus problems related to this allergy, though I never knew they were
sinus related. My sense of smell has also not been too good. I had a
bad case of post-nasal drip four/five yeras ago. I had pain above my
left eye two or so years ago as well a bleeding nose during one winter.
These were all treated with Rhinocort nasal spray.

A little over 2 months ago, I started getting getting balance and
slight vision problems as well as ear blockage discomfort. Then I had
frontal sinus infection above the eyes. I was recommended antibiotics
and nasal spray which I did not take. The infection went away but then
I started getting a slight nasal infection which resulted in congestion
in the nasal sinuses. This went away as well.

Now, the past week or so, I am constantly getting what seems like
blocked ears, mainly in my right ear. On occasions it goes away but
sometimes the pressure is very uncomfortable. I enjoy exercising
because this clears the sinuses but after one exercise session, the
pressure between my ears was very uncomfortable. I only started using
the Rhinocort nasal spray on Tuesday. I also started using the Sinus
Rinse but it says I should not use it if I feel any ear pressure. Is
this correct, should I continue using it? Will this ear pressure thing
go away?

I feel like I am constantly fighting infections since I feel hot when I
wake up in the morning. At the moment, I can fight the infections but I
can feel slight pressure in my face. I don't get a lot of mucous but it
is mostly a thick, white gooey colour. I cannot feel much mucous in my
throat that I can clear. I went to see the ENT a week and a half ago
and he simply suggested I use the Sinus Rinse and Rhinocort for two
weeks. I told him about my ear blockage but he just looked at my ears
and said  there was nothing wrong. He performed an endoscope and found
a slight deviated septum and suggested a CT scan which I think I will
need to go for.

I was wondering if the Grossan Hydro Pulse will be useful for me.
Should I order this and try it out? I have been doing alot of reading
on this group and the prognosis for me seems to be surgery. I would
like to avoid surgery if possible. I have been worried about this
problem day and night and at the moment am very anxious.

Thanks for reading. I really needed to write this all down.

When what you are describing happens to me I have to take a
decongestant before I use my irrigation device.

You might want to get a saccharin test.  According to Dr. Grossan
if you pass this test you don't need the hydro pulse irrigator.

If you are having dizzyness and blocked ear, it probably is not sinus
related.

Thanks for all your input. I really appreciate it.

Lauren,
I'm curious if your symptoms are exactly like mine?

Jabba,
How do I get a saccharin test done? Do I buy the saccharin (where?) and
do the test  myself?

Dr Grossan,
I didn't really have dizzyness I don't think. I would say slight
balance problems. Could this be because my eustachian tube is somehow
affected? I'm interested in whether the irrigation device will be
beneficial for me. I find that the Neilmed Sinus Rinse seems to be
causing discomfort for me with my ear problem.

The thing I am most perplexed about is my ear problem. I have never had
this problem before. I can still hear from my ears fine which I guess
means it is not blocked. The feeling is like a vacuum pressure which
can suddenly flare up intensely and then become just a blocked feeling.
I hope someone can shed light on this for me.

My nose is generally not all that congested. In fact, sometimes they
are very clear. Just yesterday they were fine but now today I seem to
be getting a little thick whitish/yellowish stuff from my nose which is
a sign of infection. Even so, I don't have a problem breathing through
my nose which seems strange to me.

Chris,  did you get water in your ear from swimming, shower, shampoo?

Everytime I go to my hairdresser she gets water in one ear. It is a very
annoying feeling too.
I have had to use the ear drops that swimmers use for swimmers ear
problem.

Although it sounds like a blocked eustachian tube, I am concerned that it
could be something else. Before trying the Hydro Pulse you might want to try
Clear-ease the papaya - pineapple enzyme that shrinks swollen tissue and
thins the mucus.
If it is a blocked eustachian tube, the harder you try to open it by blowing
very hard, the more you irritate the opening and cause it ot swell.

Need to rule out pain form the temperomandibular joint.

Your ENT will have to do it.
chrisw - 07 Mar 2006 12:18 GMT
OK. Received my CT scan results and everything look clear. ENT says
everything is fine and the ear problem will probably go away with time.

My ears feel better today after I did some hot towel compresses, drank
hot green tea and steam-inhaled eucalyptus oil. I bought some
Clear-Ease but since I'm in Australia will probably have to wait a week
or so for them to arrive from the US.

Dr Grossan, I would like to continue to irrigate my sinuses to get my
cilia moving and sense of smell to improve. I was wondering if the
Hydro Pulse produces less pressure than the regular Neilmed Sinus
Rinse. I find the Sinus Rinse irritating on my ears to use at the
moment.

Regarding the temperomandibular joint. I find this interesting because
recently, I had some pain around my jaw area mainly on the ride side
which is mostly where the ear discomfort is. The pain has gone away but
it hurt when I open and shut my jaw like when I'm eating. I attributed
that to just putting excessive force on my lower jaw with my wrist - I
tend to rest my head on my wrist on the table when sitting for
prolonged periods of time. I have had this type of pain numerous times
before. My jaw also makes crunching noises when I move it side to side
but I think this should be normal for everyone?
