Question about sinus drainage and obstructions

I have had a horrible head cold for three days.  My left nostril has
been leaking all day today - only my left nostril.  I am also only
getting discharge from the left side when I blow my nose.

Today, I used my grossan tip with my waterpik to rinse my sinuses with
saline solution.  As usual, with the tip in my left nostril, the water
drained primarily and readily from my right nostril.  But, when I put
the tip in my right nostril, it did not drain at all at first, then, it
began to drain from my mouth and then my right tear duct - seriously
- the water was pouring out of my eye.  Nothing was draining from the
left nostril.  During this, I felt enough pressure that I decided to
stop doing that.

Why on earth, if the water can get from my left nostril to my right to
drain can it not get from my right nostril to the left to drain.  It
doesn't make logical sense to me.  If it's plugged, then water
should be impeded from flowing either direction, right?  This has never
happened before.  Is this a problem I should worry about?

Anyone understand sinus cavities well enough to explain this?

Don't force the irrigation fluid in.  ...I've had occasions like yours
where you put the tip in one side, and the liquid easily pours out the
other, and then you switch sides, but it appears plugged.   ....If you
think your nose may be plugged, hold the tip "very loosely" at first, so
you don't build up pressure. ...Go back to the other side. Then return,
holding lightly again. ...Usually it clears. ...But don't force the
liquid in.  ..I would suggest you could really aggravate your situation.
..Your tearducts aren't meant to work in reverse.   ...Jon

I'm the OP, and I just wanted to add that I am very oddly off-balance
today too.  I keep feeling like I'm going to fall down, while I am
standing or walking.  Could this be related to a sinus obstruction - if
I have one?

I do.
Strangely enough there are multipel channels through your nasal cavity. The
tear duct opening is located to the side where you can easily reach it with
just a 1/3 inch probe. So, if the nose is blocked, the water will be forced
into the tear duct.
Solution : shrink the nose first - nasal spray or Benzedrex inhaller.
