nasal bleeding problem

for almost two weeks now, i've been finding blood in my nasal mucous
during intermittent allergic bouts throughout the day.  over the last
couple of days, ive felt very mild to moderate pressure on the sides of
my nose bridge, in between the eyes--and when the pressure builds up,
there's also often blood in the mucous.  there appears to be no nasal
infection, as the mucuos is white.

went to an ENT last week and got a screening CT of my paranasal
sinuses.  the radiologist's impression (and concurred by the ENT) were:
1) right maxillary retention cyst vs pulp, 2) ethmoid sinusitis, 3)
mild rightward nasal septal deviation, 4) patent ostiometal units, and
5) congested inferior nasal turbinates with glandular mucosa.

the ENT ruled out any cancer and said the maxillary cyst was not the
cause of the bleeding, and was nothing to be overly concerned about.
he prescribed xyzal (an antihistamine) for the allergies.  he did not
elaborate on a definite cause of the bleeding, just saying it was due
to my thin nasal membranes and aggravated by the allergies.

not really satisfied with the 'indefinite' explanation, i've been
reading up on sinus literature over the web, including posts in this
group.  since the ENT visit, the allergies have been alleviated to a
degree, but i still do have blood in the nasal mucous.   im thinking of
getting a second opinion        with anothe ENT.  what could be the
cause of the bleeding?  i think the bleeding may be in the ethmoid
sinuses.  what could i be taking aside from antihistamines?  for the
etmoid sinusitis?

thanks in advance for your inputs.

I have been having a bloody nose in the morning when I blow it, but
nothing the rest of the day, My nose feels sore inside, I guess from
dried blood with a feeling of dry nasal passages.
I have been useing saline rinses 2x a day.

I had a sinus infection last December my MD gave me Biaxin XL  for 10
days, January my eyes  and turbinates felt imflammed MD put me on Cipro
for 10 days
For a few weeks I thought I was okay.
Now this bloody nose in the morning.

You may have a "winter skin" type of nose.If your saline contains
benzalkonium, that might make it worse.
Ask your doctor about using a moisturizing nasal gel.

Thank you Dr. Grossan no nasal bleeding last night as I used the Ayr
nasal gel twice yesterday for moisturing.

All clear this morning.

The fact that you feel pressure/pain in the bridge of the nose really
points toward the ethmoids.  Plus, the radiologist stated ethmoid
sinusitis.  Look into doing some saline irrigations. These may have
good results in the ethmoids provided you don't have any bad anatomical
blockages.  You want to keep your sinus mucosa moist and clean so they
can heal themselves.    Plus, the saline irrigations could be a good
complement to the allergic medications, as they can cause drying due to
decreased mucus production.  Also, be careful not to blow your nose too
hard or too often.

Good luck!

yup, it sure appears so.  should i be concerned though of bleeding in
my ethmoids?  should the bleeding resolve itself without further
complications?  could the blood clotting cause complications (i.e.,
turn into a cyst)?

about the antihistamines, so far, i've not experienced drying.  i only
take it at night before i go to bed, as i get the worst allergies early
morning.

Best  call your dotctor's office and ask if he wants to take a look at
it.......(bleeding can occasionally indicate serious problems in the head that
are coming down through the sinuses).

Well people can get bleeding in the winter because of dry air.   The
antiistamines are drying further........

Most nose bleeds due to the nose improve or clear with a nasal moisturizing
gel. Nosebleeds during winter are common . Ask your doctor about using a
nasal moisturizing gel, for example, Breathe.ease XL Nasal Gel - see
www.hydromedonline.com.
