If one has a fungal infection of the sinuses, does the mucus have a
certain color? My ENT
that did my sinus surgery claimed fungal secretions in the sinuses look
like murky,muddy
water compared to bacterial infection.  Is there any outward signs that
one has a fungal
infection? Such as brown dark mucus coming out of the nose?

I would be curious about this myself. After my first surgery my ENT
said it looked fungal, but I didn't really understand what it may look
like. AFter my 2nd surgery with a different ENT he didn't mention
fungal, but I don't think he went in as deep.  I believe he was mainly
after the polyps. I had a lot of those.  Some time after the 2nd
surgery (about 4 months) I took one dose of prednisone( I mean just
once and not a packet), GSE three times a day, Bromelain 3 times a day
and Oasis nose spray.  I have always used Neilmed 2x a day.  Anyway
about two weeks later I had some stuff which drained into the back of
my mouth. It felt like ground hamburger. About a teaspoon worth of it.
Anyway had been having trouble with airflow in my left nostril.  After
this came out I had better airflow and it continued to get better for
awhile. I have had larger chucks come out since then. Some as large as
4 or 5 mm. These were semi hard and dark. Sort of like torward the
black/gray end of the spectrum, but with a slight green tint. The
texture when smashed was more like slightly wet powder. I am assuming
this may be some fungal matter. I gave it to a tech at my Allergist
Office to analyze and he was suprised this came out of my nose.  He has
been doing this for years so I was rather suprised to hear that
response. According to the Doctor he said it showed infecetion, but
nothing else grew. So I don't know if this was dead fungal mass or
what.  Curious what other peoples thoughts are though.
