I'm curious as to the size range of the openings to a 'normal'
maxillary, ethmoid and frontal sinus.  Am I correct in assuming that
most FESS procedures to open ostia will open them up 'more than
normal'?

Roughly 2 millimeters in diameter.

That's why thick infected mucus can't easily drain out of there.

A bilateral maxillary antrostomy will widen out those openings to around
10 mm in diameter.
