This is [u] one [/u] of the sore spots with me and the FDA. The maker's of
"Mucinex" (hope the spelling is correct) found a loophole that no one had a
patent on guaifenisen, so here they come and make the same thing as we had
with "Humabid-LA" and others that were about $8.00 a hundred, and now charge
about 50 cents a pill for the same thing. The pharmacies had to clear their
shelves of all the regular guaifenisen that was cheaply priced and also
600mg tablets, and let Mucinex have the market for the extended release
600mg tab. You can still buy Humibid, but it only comes as instant release
and it also is much higher priced now. Good ole FDA.
I don't think there should be any difference between brands now, but there
has been controversy as to whether it really does 'work' as they advertise.
