I've been suffering with sinus swelling (and associated symptoms) for
many years now.
Latest episode has lasted 2+ months, and I was wondering if anyone
experiences escalating head pain when reading, concentrating or looking
at a computer screen?
I can feel my symptoms get worse with every passing minute of
reading/computer time, and my mother can notice the swollenness
increasing.
Is this normal for sinus problems? I feel as if my IQ has been cut in
half during this 2+ episode, is this normal?

Increase your monitor refresh rate to 75 Hertz (stops the flickering) or
higher if your using CRT. If your using a LCD, refresh rates won't matter.

I have a lot of problems because I'm sensitive to dust, and computers
are notorious dust collectors. The static electric charge, particularly
on desktop monitors, collects dust, pollen, mold spores, etc. If you
open up your computer and monitor and look inside, it can be a real
chamber of horrors in there. And we sit in front of the things for hours.
If that's the case with your computer, consider having it professionally
cleaned.

Another source of dust is the keyboard. All sorts of gunk falls in the
cracks between the keys. And every time you type, the gunk puffs out
and you breathe it right in. I'm forced to do a major cleanup
periodically--take the keys off and dust inside, then replace the keys.

I used to have a lot of trouble doing some of my detail work. I would
sit at my desk and would loose my ability to concentrate. I used a
combination of afrin, a steroid nasal spray, and washing out my nasal
passages. Every morning, my sinuses would start to run and then back
up. When everything backed up, I would not be able to concentrate.
Useing the steroid and aftin would open the sinus so it could drain. I
could concentrate better then. Hope this helps.

Just a note that Afrin is often addictive if used for more than 3 days......

Good point. Afrin in moderation. Instead of using 2 or 3 puffs in
each nostril, I would only use 1 puff and would not continue for
excessive periods. The main thing is to get the sinuses opened and
then clean with the nasal wash.

Even though you may have an allergy or sinus problem, it is important to
consider sleep apnea as a cause of the symptoms you describe.
