Who maintains/hosts FAQ for Alt.Support.Sinusitis Ver. 5.3?

http://www.sinusitisfaq.org

I just received an email offering a spelling correction:

FYI, later on in the FAQ there is an error in either spelling or word
usage you may wish to see corrected, involving the word "exacerbate"
used in two different places.  The word "exasperate" was used
erroneously in its place.

Unrelated to this, I've been doing more facial massage lately and am
finding that it seems to have some efficacy in warding off and
lessening the duration of both colds and sinus infections. This is all
anecdotal, of course, so take it for what it's worth.

Using my knuckles as well as my finger tips, I alternate between
rubbing and pressure pointing over the surface of my face covering my
nasal and sinus membranes. My thinking is that this increases the
blood flow (and infection fighting) to these areas, which don't get a
lot of blood flow, and loosens mucous. I do the facial massage for a
minute or two each time, anywhere from once to four or five times a
day. Each time I wind up swallowing or spitting out some mucous, my
sinuses feel warm for some minutes afterward.

I think that blood flow is indeed a  key.   Exercsie id ano

We are hosting it on that be site.

Larry Fletcher is kind enough to look after it although we have not revised it
beyond your last version.  It has stood the test of time.

Are there any other updates you would like to see made?

Claritin is now OTC, so maybe change the first paragraph under
Antihistamines to this:

Antihistamines can reduce mucus secretions and sinus swelling.
Second-generation prescription oral antihistamines such as Claritin,
Allegra, and Zyrtec are less likely to cause drowsiness than
first-generation over-the-counter antihistamines such as Benadryl
(diphenhydramine hydrochloride), but some people find that Benadryl
(or its generic equivalent) is more effective. Claritin, now available
over the counter, is the least sedating. Zyrtec is somewhere between
Claritin and Benadryl in terms of both efficacy and sedation effects.

Why not just remove the word "prescription" above, and delete the OTC
reference below?

I'd argue this last point.  IIRC, Claritin works for about 30% of the
population.  I doubt Zyrtec is that low, but it's a guess.  It certainly
isn't sedating. Unless one can cite a great deal of comparative studies,
I'd simply list them all as potentially useful, with variations in
individual responses.

I'm in favor..

Do you want to update it yourself (we can give you ftp access) or would you
like us to do it for you?  You are the author after all.

Incidentally, Steven  Litvintchouk  has proposed new FAQ material but
meanwhile,  it seems to me that any corrections to the original version are
very  worthwhile,,,,,,

I hate to put a damper on this, but that's not what I have observed over
the months and years the original FAQ has been available.  It has not
proven to be valuable to all the posters who come here looking for help
and support.

In fact, that's why I posted that new material some time ago--a genuine
list of "Frequently Asked Questions," rather than a tutorial about
sinusitis.

By far the most common questions we get here are:

1.  Are my symptoms indicative of sinusitis?

2.  I've tried {lots of things} but I'm still sick; is there anything
else I can try?

Those questions and the discussions that follow constitute the bulk of
our discussions here.  And the current FAQ doesn't do a good job of
dealing with them.  That's why it is referred to so infrequently.

Folks aren't looking for a tutorial on sinusitis; they're looking for
advice as to what, specifically, they should do.

I think we can put both up.

As you say, they have difficult approaches and goals.

Can we put yours up in draft form and leave his up as the original?

I am sorry I have not contibuted yet.

Should we make it a wiki?

I do have another wiki up for a WebSphere User Group using Moinmoin.   If you
want to see it please email me for the URL.

Thanks,

Don

I hereby bequeath the FAQ to you, this newsgroup, the sinusitis
community, or anyone else who might benefit from it, to update and
correct as you see fit. Steven D. Litvintchouk doesn't think it's
useful, so feel free to scrap it too. His thinking is skewed though.
For as long as there have been newsgroups and FAQs, a certain fairly
substantial percentage of people have ignored them and asked questions
of the group that were answered in the FAQ. But if he thinks he can do
better, OK with me. Or if you want to post both, that's OK with me
too. Whatever works.
