I had the chills for 3 weeks off and on then came down with infected
sinus (Max). My throat hurt so bad that I finally went to my doctor.
My doctor gave me 7 days of Biaxin XL, decongestant, gargle with warm
salt water.  It is a fuuny thing that when I am sick, drinking hot tea
with honey helps me a lot. Saline rinse is  helping me too.

One dose of the decongestant made my heart beat so loud that I thought I
was having a stroke. I woke up during the night too with it pounding
away.

I stopped take that decongestant.
I have taken decongestants before with no problems. it was Bendaryle-D.

Yes, I finally became sensitized to oral decongestants too, after years
of taking them.  I not only got all the symptoms you mentioned, but I
also get the feeling of ants crawling all over my skin.  For me,
decongestants act like amphetamines ("speed") so I had to stop taking
them altogether.  Even the children's dose (half the adult dose) does
that to me.
