What is empty nose syndrome

Hello:

i saw the phrase "empty nose syndrome" mentioned in another post regarding
turbinate reduction.  I just got back from an appt with an ENT that walked
me through a guided tour of my cat scan.  he pointed out how a previous
surgery had aggressively diminished one of my turbinates so that it is
almost not there at all.  

what type of problems might this present?

Thanks but I can not find any mention of "empty nose" syndrome at
