Hi Len,
Thanks for the response. I see a Ear nose and throat specialist on nov.
4th. But I guess until then I should give it a shot and ask here.
How common is this among adults? I read tons about it - but all
referring to a child. Any ideas as to a cause or prevention for this?
The doc says it is a clear/"sterile" effusion and its due to allergies
- but I have never had allergies in the past. I also just had a child -
he was 6 months when this started. Doc says sometimes people -
especially after a pregnancy - just suddenly develop allergies - could
this be true?
The only changes I have made.... I quit smoking 1 1/2 yrs ago. And
about the time this all started, I went out drinking and smoked a few
cigarettes... then again here and there ever since. About one cigarette
per day, late in the evening. Sometimes two. This and the clogged ear
has been going on for 4 months! I know.. if I am only smoking one per
day I should just stop altogether... I know.
Also, I began taking Zoloft the same time too...All of these things
within days of the clogged ears. I actually thought the Zoloft might
have caused it since it was the only thing I had taken and I had smoked
previously without problems... so I quit taking it for a month and
nothing was better or worse.. started taking it again and its all still
the same.
Anyways, all input is appreciated.

Just as starting smoking speeds up your metabolism, stopping smoking slkows it
down, and sinusitis or clogged ears etc. can result.if your sinus clearance was
marginal.
Better to stay off cigarettes though if you can and try different appraoches to
the other issues...
As to tubes, their general usefulness in childen is debatable, so I wonder if
the same may be true for adults. Not a lot of harm in trying them thoigh so
far as I know...
