Hi all,

I had 2 sinus surgeries recently, and with all the antibiotics, I ended
up with c.diff colitis. Has anyone experienced this?

This is why it is so important to get the cilia action back as soon as
possible after surgery.

Hi.  I have heard and read much about C-diff, but I don't think it's
actually a "colitis".  I DO, however, know that the overuse of
antibiotics is directly attributed to the type of colitis I have, which
is collagenous colitis, also known as lymphocytic colitis or
microscopic colitis.  However, I have hardly ever taken antibiotics in
my 48 years of life, so mine came from somewhere else, but lots of
people with this rare form of colitis DO attribute it to antibiotics
and the overuse of Ibuprofen.

It's been five days since I finished augmentin and though I've left
behind some of the side effects, I'm still extremely gassy and burp
constantly.  My hemmorhoids are still around too.  And today, I saw
blood and mucous in my stool.  Colitis?  I'm eating yoghurt and taking
about 6-8 billion whatever of acidiphilus.  I'm going to double up and
hope to nip this in the bud.  Will see the ENT later in the week and
will be bringing this up along with the fact that 3 weeks of augmentin
didn't do anything but give me the worst gastrointestinal side effects.

You may want to consider taking saccaromyces boulardii (sp?).  I know a
number of folks whose antibiotic induced gastric problems were helped by
this.

tdonline - you should at least call a pharmacist but better yet call your
doctor. Blood and mucous in the stools should not be ignored. What brand
of acidopholis are you using? I only had luck using Culturelle. All the
others did nothing for me. Call today and check on those symptoms.

PS Augmentin was one of the antibiotics I had problem with (developed
colitis - not c.diff but still serious)

I got colitis one time after a long course of antibiotics. I fortunately
didn't get c. diff colitis but I did have serious colitis symptoms and
lost 15 pounds. It took me many weeks before I could eat normally again. I
hear c. diff is awful to have - I sympathize with you!

I take culturelle probiotics http://www.culturelle.com and found them to
be more effective than other probiotics. This particular brand has been
heavily researched and used in Europe for many years. To get over this,
make sure you are taking a probiotic and if you can tolerate it eat plain
unsweetened yogurt that contains cultures such as Stoneyfield Yogurt.

All I know about the c. diff is that taking certain antibiotics like
clindamycin can lead to this type of colitis. I read that c. diff can
reoccur months after you are over it so be on the look out for a
reoccurrence call your doctor right away. I would try to avoid the
antibiotics that you used before the c. diff if possible.
