When irrigating my left nostril since my FESS, i have had a frequent
sensation that some water was 'escaping' to my left eye. As this was
just a sensation and i didn't see any real evidence, i didn't think too
much of it. However, today when irrigating, i definitely had this
sensation again and noticed a small amount of fluid dripping down from
my eye. For what it's worth, i've never had this sensation on the
right side.
Any ideas what may be going on here? Is it normal to have some sort of
opening that a small amount of fluid could escape to my eye socket
during irrigation? Or, could this be a complication of my FESS?
Thanks in advance to any responses.

It is most likely something else.
I think that there is no such path that the water could take, even after
surgery.
Now, it might be entering the sinuses around the eye (the ethmoid sinuses) but
these do not have any pathway to the eye itself.
It may be stimulating the tear ducts and be causing watering or irritation of
the eye. That should not be a problem.....

There is a pathway, the Naso Lacrimal duct that drains tears from your eye
into the inferior meatus of the nose. Perhaps the direction of the fluid is
forcing the liquid up the duct. If you are using the Hydro Pulse Nasal/
Sinus Irrigator the pressure is set too low to allow this.

In fact,
the manufacturer of the NeilMed "Sinus Rinse" syringe irrigator knows
that teary/watery eyes can be a side effect. Probably for the reason
you mentioned. It's easy to make a mistake and squeeze that syringe too
hard.

I've been using the NeilMed kit. :)
Thank you for the information, gentlemen. It's much appreciated.

Teary/watering eyes happens to me all the time--when I irrigate with a
syringe rather than with the HydroPulse. The naso-lacrymal ducts drain
excess fluid from your eyes into your nostrils, from where it ends up
with all the other nasal secretions.
It's all too easy to squeeze the water too forcefully up your nose.
That reverses the flow up the naso-lacrymal ducts and sends saline
solution into your eyes.
