hello:
I woke up last night to the most intense electrical storm that i have ever
witnessed and went about the house checking on things before i noticed that
for the first time that I can remeber in years i was not aware of my
sinuses or of my post nasal drip. i have been searching the internet but
cannot find anything. is there at all any possible correlation?
also, my sinusitis / PND problems bbegun for me about 6-7 years ago when i
quit smoking tobacco. i have had 2 surgeries, been on allergy shots for a
year, taken all kinds of medication, adjusted my diet, and moved within
that time but nothing has helped. is there anything that smoking tobacco
does that could have "helped" or masked my condition?
thanks,

If your sinuses are infalmed and fiull of gunk, which they probably are, then
a brief pause means only that they have stopped draining momentarily, probably
because your metabolism slows down at night.

Sure it is a stimulant that speeds up your metabolism, just like
pseudoepinephrine or adrenaline. Those will help your sinuses too but they are
too high a price to pay in terms of side-effects.
I would check your thyroid to see if it may be low (it has a role in regulating
metabolism).

If the electrical storm was part of a strong cold front, then that
passing storm front may have swept away a lot of air pollution and smog.
The arriving air mass from Canada may be cleaner.
There is also some evidence that negatively charged ions in the
atmosphere have a beneficial effect on one's well-being. Electrical
storms generate lots of negative ions.
There are air ion generators you can purchase for your home. But I
wouldn't recommend it. The problem with negative ion generation is that
it also produces ozone, which is irritating to the respiratory tract.
(Electrical storms generate ozone too, but it's temporary and the winds
eventually dissipate it.)

Thanks,
a couple of years ago my in-laws gave me a gift of a FLAIR air
purifier/ozone generator which i used for a few weeks without noticing any
improvement. i did start getting a rusy taste in my mouth and at about
this time a pediatrician diagnosed my daughter with asthma (since
disproven). searching on the internet revealed that the ozone generator
was not recommended for in home use especially around childen and MOST
especially around children with asthma. i spent over a year working with
the distributor of this unit to get my money back, eventually tracking him
down to his home address and phone.
the amount of these items that are "never used" or "like new" on eBay
reveals the value that most purchasers feel they have received.

must have been a fluke but it really seemed as if i felt better than i had
for 6-7 years.

You might want to learn about the air quality in your area. Go to
www.scorecard.org
and enter your Zip code in the indicated box.
If your area has a problem with air pollution, you might try taking a
nice long vacation in a seacoast community (where air pollution is
usually less) and see if you feel better.

No wonder I'm sick. Along with massive mold exposure, my county is in
the top 10 % of dirtiest counties in the country. How accurate is
this?

As accurate as it gets. The data is taken right from the EPA's own
monitoring stations that have been installed in communities across the
country. IIRC, the website has a way to find out the street address of
the EPA monitoring station for your zip code, so you can see if you're
upwind or downwind of it.
