I'm about to have surgery in my mouth to repair a small hole in the
bone under my gum where i had a tooth pulled that broke through my
sinus cavity 7 years ago. the gum healed but the bone never grew all
the way back, they are going to make a small inscision in the gum and
fill the hole with man made bone. I currently had a nose culture which
came back positive for enterobacter, is it ok to have this surgery as
long as i'm on antibiotics for this bug?

I would ask all doctors involved to consult at least briefly with each other if
they are not already doing so..

They are going to put me on antibiotics before the surgery isn't that
sufficient???

Probably so but why not call the surgeon's office and ask and and have them
sent a copy of the culture report just to make them aware of everything.  They
always appreciate that ........

You'll be fine.

Those cultures are not always that significant anyway.

Once you close off the fisture, it will likely be well on the way to
resolution.......

You mean even if you have enterobacter on the sinus culture it doesn't
mean much?

I  do not know about the clinical significance of that one in particular......

For what it's worth, I do read that enterobacter is most common in
hospital-acquired sinusitis, amd also that it occurs most frequently in
individuals with compromised immune status.

I neiher of those apply to you, and you do not want to just wait until you
complete tthe antibiotics nad seal up the fisture to see what happens then,
then you might want to do a repeat culture to see if the finding is
repeatable....

Thanks Don, i'm not immune comprimised, and haven't been to a hospital
in a while, my internist stated that this bacteria is everywhere on
plants, water, soil, sewage, It also states that at the CDC website. I
hope this bug doesnt kill me????
Thanks again

From what I have read it is not too hard at all to kill it off......
