Sinus nerve pain is back

I have had sinus headaches for many years now.  My doctors have ruled
out migrains, cluster, and tension headaches. My headaches are
characteristic of sinus headaches but my ct scans are always
normal...well normal for a person who has had 7 sinus surgeries in the
last 15 years. They began when I was 16.  But during that time they
were caused because of abnormal ct scans so surgery was done.  But
since then my headaches have been caused from something else.  I've
been tossed between ENTs and neurologists for years now, since the
problem seems to border both specialties. The neurologist has put me on
three nerve drugs so far.  First I was on Neurotin, then Depokote, and
then Topamax.  It came to his conclusion that I had a nerosis of the
sinuses, meaning the nerves in my sinuses get irritaed from allergies,
inflamation, etc.... Only happens to about 20% or less of people with
sinusitis and allergic rhinitis. The Neuortin was no good I cant
remember why.  The Depokote made me lose my memory including my name
and my phone number, and the Topamax almost caused me to go blind in
one eye.  I have had enough with nerve drugs.  I am usually fine for
about a month after I stop the nerve drug, but then the headaches start
in again.  Its constant pain every day.  Sometimes dull and sometimes
sharp stabbing pain.  Its usually in the frontal and maxiallry sinus
areas, but sometimes its in the ethmoids and sephnoids.  Regular pain
relivers do nothing.  And stronger pain medicines make me bed ridden.
So I have finally seeked help at UCLA Medical Center.  I have an
appointment with an ENT specialist who deals with facial pain on June
21st.  I hope he can help me because I am at a loss of what to do. I
don't think my doctors understand what its like to be in pain every
single day.

Have you considered acupressure or acupuncture?  (I haven't tried
either, but I know folks who have been helped by those 2 treatments).
Best of luck to you, and take care.  I really believe that a lot of
doctors are just at a loss as to how to treat chronic pain.

Ask your doctor is taking a medication to reduce swelling would be helpful.

Nerve sensitivity ofter responds to 100 mg of Pyridoxine one twice a day.
Combined with an antiinflammatory like Clear.ease might work for you.

Any mediation on a daily basis for chronic pain will have side effects,
even the dumbest medico knows this.

Accupunture may help but expensive in the long run, unless you learn to
do it yourself.

Perhap you try this method from a the very old budda, it costs you
nothing:

hope you get on top of this dilema soon.

Very interesting. I just started doing some other very 'low impact'
healing type movements/excercises daily. can't recall the name of the
method 'Dong Qi' maybe?

Anyway, the only thing I can't figure out about Dat Ma Dich Can Kinh
from the instructions is whether the arms have to be held out straight
at a right angle to the torso when waving or if they should just be
hanging loose at the sides of the torso. Do you know?

Wondering how you ran into this stuff. Are you an ex Vietnam vet or
Vietnamese yourself? I couldn't find any other write up on this in
english except the one you provided the link to.

I understand having sinus headache everyday ,some years ago before I started
allergy treatment they were so bad I thought I was having a stroke! after
allergy treatment and irrigation I was fine for a few years now they are
coming back but thankfully less severe most of the time ,but I also have
lots of facial pain. Your experience with some of the drugs interest me
because they have been discussed as possible treatment. could you let me
know what dosages you were on ? I suspect I would be taking much less
because in my case they are not primarily for relief of pain but for
diagnostic use to determine if I have type 2 Bipolar.
I have found about the only pain reliever that works consistently for me if
the pain is severe is perkoset but it puts me to sleep.

I was always told to take care of my pain first, so that I could
function with those sinus headaches.

Aleve works for me. Sometimes I have to take them for a couple of days.
2 tablets at a time in the morning (not on an empty stomach) and later
in the day before bedtime.

My sinus start to drain within a day, that's when the pressure eases up.
