Last august i was ill with a upper respiratory/ sinus infection that
the doctors said was viral, after weeks of not realy feeling better
they put me on z pac which really didn't help me inprove, my ENT then
put me on augmentin xr for about twenty days, he then decided to
culture my sinus. The culture came back positive for Enterobacter
gergovia, which he claims is a bacteria found in the human gut,
basically it's normal intestinal flora, he said that it could have been
an overgrowth from the overuse of antibiotics???? he then changed my
antibiotics to septra ds which the bacteria was most sensitive to.
After the septra ds treatment was complete (10 days} he decided to
culture again this time it was negative. Five months passed and i
became ill again, this time the symptoms were not as bad, my ENT
decided to culture again this time it was the same bacteria but a
different species, Enterobacter cloacae, he treated me with septra ds
again which is what it was sensitive to, i'am now well but would like
to know were i could have picked up this bacteria, also can it hide out
in your sinus and then come back if not treated long enough? my last
bout with septra ds was for two weeks. My doctor claims that i could be
a carrier, is this possible? I currently don't have any symptoms of
being ill like a fever, or bad sinus headaches, somtime i get a little
aching over my eyes and between my nose but could be posture or other
things causing that????

Thanks, Lateralus

I had those upper respiratory infections and it traveled down to my
lungs after being on antibiotics.

I was given another kind of Med to clear my lungs up.

Yes I had a sinus and an inner ear infection before it went down to my
lungs.

My back was hurting when i would breath, so I went back to my MD and he
said I had a lung infection.

Gastroesophageal reflux from the stomach.
While you slept in a horizontal position, you may have "burped" in your
sleep and aspirated your stomach contents all the way up into your
nasopharynx.

ENTs are gradually beginning to realize that reflux can actually *cause*
sinusitis.  You need to be tested for reflux.
