Hello, new to this group and wanted to get some information/opinions.
Specifically, regarding sinus headaches/infection. This week I have been
having on and off sinus pain, culminating in very bad pain tonight. I have
been congested but have not had any runny nose. The pain is definately in my
sinuses but I am also having pain in my neck and shoulders. I am
(hopefully) going to get to see my doctor tomorrow, but wanted to touch base
with this group. First: can I have a sinus infection without having a runny
nose? Second: what sort of things should I do to help diminish the pain
until I get to see the doctor? TIA
The only thing that works for me are 2 Aleve when I wake up in the
morning for that sinus pressure. Some times I will have the pain for a
couple of days and I keep taking the Aleve.
I will have the pain but no other symptoms.

Yep. That's more true in adults than in children.

If you're sure it's sinus pain, you might try taking both an OTC
decongestant (e.g., Sudafed) and an OTC pain reliever (e.g., Advil).
If you've never taken Sudafed before, beware; it's a stimulant and can
cause nervousness and insomnia. If you can't tolerate it, then just
take the OTC pain reliever.

So you can have a sinus infection without having a fever, as well?

The doctor said he thought an infection wouldn't come about after just
having problems for a week, but said if I still had the same problems in
another week to come back. He has me on 2 Alleves twice a day and
Claritan-D. Of course, one or the other is playing havoc with my IBS. If it
isnt' one thing...

Pretty positive it's the Aleve that would be doing that to the IBS.
Naproxen (the active ingridient in Aleve) is rough on the
stomach...maybe taking it with a glass of milk might help.
My pain is always worse when I am congested; when it drains I feel
better. I have other body aches associated with my sinusitis.
