Contac was a questionable way to fight a cold because the "drying"
effect might make you feel better but it thickened secretions and made
the cold harder to get rid of.

Actually it is because blowing your nose can force it further into your
sinuses.

Because it has a drying effect, just like the antihistamine in Contac.
But without the systemic side effects.

Look on the bright side. The cold will be gone within a week or two.
Unlike my chronic sinusitis, which is like your cold only it's permanent.
