Tea is good the sinuses. What is bad for the sinuses? I was told that
regular consumption of dairy product especially milk can cause sinus
problems. Does any one know of a study about the effect of milk on the
nasal system?
ENTconsult - 01 Nov 2003 18:05 GMT
at www.ent-consult.com there is a list of products that impair nasal cilia
function. These include getting chilled and iced drinks.
I know of no studies that show that milk is "bad" for the sinuses except if you
are allergic to milk.
Besides which people need the calcium.
Tea and chicken soup are proven to improve nasal and bronchial function. Also,
adequate hydration.

By a vey experience naturopathic, but that was from her personal
observation.

According to Dr Grossan finding, anything cold is not good for the sx,
even cold tea. Conversely, 'warm' milk would be good for the sx !!!.

So cold beer is out and hot chocolate is in.

Why do we need milk anyway? It is not natural to drink cow milk,
surely, we can get calcium from elsewhere (sea food, soybean etc).

You could if you greatly increased the intake of those over the average.

I don't drink milk myself but I take calcoum supplements to make up for
it......

Adults don't get sick from a milk deficiency.  I haven't had milk in 25
years and my bones are in great shape.  As a matter of fact, of all the
people in my immediate family, of which there are 7, I am the only one who
never had back problems.  I also don't have any arthritis which is also
common in the family.  By the way, I am the eldest of the 5 kids.  I am also
the only one who doesn't drink milk or use any milk products.  Put that in
your pipe and smoke it.  Take a look at this site too:
http://www.notmilk.com

My only health problem is an iatrogenic one called Empty Nose Syndrome
thanks to an overzealous ENT surgeon.  Bastard.

Because it tastes good.  Why do we need beer and chocolate cake and caramel
apples?  Some of us still choose what we eat and drink for pleasure rather
than to prolong our lives by 3.25 months.  Certainly we should try not to be
overweight, but apart from that, eat, drink, and be merry!

I don't drink milk because it makes me sick. It puts my sinuses into an
uproar and I don't feel good in general.  To eat and drink milk does not
make me merry otherwise I'd cave into my taste buds too.

Obviously if milk makes you ill, you won't drink it, but you missed the
point of my post which was that generally people will choose to get the
nutrients they need by eating and drinking items that they find pleasurable
to eat and drink.  So some people, like me, will choose to get their calcium
by drinking milk because we like to drink milk.  Surely you don't think I
was suggesting that *everyone* must eat chocolate cake and caramel apples
and drink beer as part of their diet?   :-)   So you missed the point, but
that's ok, hopefully you get it now.

Why drink milk?
If you are not allergic to it, it is a source of calcium.
Why worry about calcium?
a stuffy nose is not nice.
Lack of calcium can cause serious disablility and life threatening fractures.
Unfortunately, as you know, this week calcium supplement A is bad for you. Last
week it was good for you.
This week vitamin c over 500 mg takes calcium out of you.
How to keep us is certainly difficult. But milk/ yougurt, etc  as a source of
calcium has been around for many years and since NOT having enough calcium is
VERY IMPORTANT, taking milk seems sensible.
Of course there are other sources of calcium.

Told by whom?   Studies have shown no confirmation for this oft-repeated rumor.

WHY would MILK be bad as it NEVER touches the sinuses during drinking??? If
it DOES then you have a drinking problem quite like the guy in the movie
AIRPLANE!
Milk isnt SLIMEY!
When it goes bad it separates into grainy curds like cottage cheese and
liquid whey THATS NOT SLIMEY!
My Doctor told me its complete utter BUNK!

Well that's it.... From now on, milk irrigations are out!

....Actually, Sarah, hit the nail on the head. Some people get so
wrapped up in what to eat, and what not to eat.  ...The whole situation
can become ridiculous. ...With my Arthritis, I'm supposed to stay away
from grains, meat, carbohydrates, and alcohol. For my hyperthyroidism, I
think it's milk and seafood products. ...Kidney stones... Let me see:
leafy vegetables, coke, tea, and coffee..  Hmm...What's left for me?
..Water and a couple of vitamin pills?

Moderation is the word.   ...Strive to stay healthy, but don't become a
fanatic over it. Soon or later the grim reaper gets us all. ...Even
those who consume nothing but bean sprouts and broccoli. ....Jon

The problem is he may not want to get us straight away but let us
lingering on to pay the doctor bills, consuming drugs and other things
from the drug companies, keeping the economy ticking along.

You are right moderation is the key, but it can be difficult at
times...to determine the  moderate level...

Any way, it looks like that heat in the liquid that help the sinus
work better and the liquid itself keep us hydrated which is also good
for the nasal system.
Warm milk is good but we can not drink four or five glass of milk a
day whereas we can seep four or five cup of hot tea with no problem
(no sugar of course). Conversely I suspect that cold tea could dampen
cilia function and therefore is not desirable, but obviously if you
are thirsty in a hot day, the benifit/pleasure from a cold drink would
outweight the risk...(sound familiar!!!)
