Dr. Grossan:

I know I am irrigating too much - 5 times a day.
I am going to cut down by incorporating other treatment modalities (more
tea, humming, plus I just recieved my Gentamicin, etc.)

I have been doing this for about two years. Could I have damaged my cilia
by this?  I believe it is more likely that I have made my sinuses/cilia
too dependant on the irrigations, which at least can be corrected. Is this
latter speculation more likely?  Aren't cilia hard to permanently damge?

Lastly, do ENT's have an exam to determine cilia health?  How can I tell
if they are functioning?

Thank you
Joe

You wouldn't do harm by irrigating so frequently as long as you use saline.
The concern with more than 2x a day irrigation is that you also remove good
stuff - lysozyme, etc.
Yes, tea, chicken soup, humming "oooommmmm" all help move the cilia.

We had a female poster here once (goes by the name "Preesi") who swears
by applying her vibrator to her face over her sinuses.

Yes, you place a particle of saccharin in the nose and see how long it takes
to taste it. I have several papers on this method.
You can also get a fair idea by placing Breathe.ease XL nasal gel in the
nose and see how long it takes to taste this, as the cilia move the gel to
the back of the throat and down the throat.
