Hi everyone,
I'd greatly appreciate feedback on the operation that I'll have in a
week.
The situation:
Since a very bad sinusitis about 10 years ago, my nose keeps producing
clear mucus all the time and I often have sinus infections on the right
side. Fifteen months ago, I used the 'CanDo' sinus rinsing method for
the first time, which resulted in flushing large amounts of old,
yellow-red mucus out of my right sinus. Since then my overall condition
has improved, and I keep flushing the sinuses this way on a regular
basis, but I still get infections on the right side with red/yellow
mucus on a regular basis.
A CT had been made, but only after I flushed all the old mucus out, so
there's no congregation of mucus visible on it.
So the ENTs I've seen so far come to the conclusion that I have no
chronic sinusits since there's no mucus visible on the CT and that no
sinus operation is necessary.
However, they found enlarged turbinates on the right side and a septum
deviation as well. The operation is going to fix these issues.
My questions are:
Regarding the operation on the turbinates, what is important to know to
avoid complications in the long run? What kinds of operation are
acceptable, which outdated and harmful?
Because of the yellow/red mucus and the recurrent infections on the
right side, will fixing the turbinates and septum likely be sufficient?
I imagine that the mucosa in the right sinus must be in a very bad
condition and that a sinus operation might be required as well.
Thanks,
Sascha

Mucus preserving surgery. They reduce the turbiante underneath the mucus layer
without damaging it.

Excessive removal of the turbinate.

It's anybody's guess....
Second opinions are worth their wright in gold....
