Silly questiion but do you have the water (shower) running while you are
irrigating?  the position sounds helpful...I will try it...thanks

Not silly at all. There is a discharge of foam and/or bloody mixture that
comes down my forehead during the irrigation, and settles on the shower
floor. I run the shower to clean it up, but my preference is after the
irrigation.  Best of luck!

why are you having blood come out of your nose when irrigating? doesn't sound
right.

Might have something to do with being on Coumadin. I've also noticed
occasional blood in the normal discharge since I've been on Beclomethasone.
Most of the time I don't get a bloody discharge when irrigating.

I've removed myself from Beclomethasone. I've been without sinus medicine
for 17 days. Today my sinuses are a little achy, so I am going to do my
first "upside-down" flooding of my sinuses with 3% peroxide/baking soda and
salt, in 10 days. It will be interesting to see if there is any blood in the
irrigation discharge now that I am no long on Beclomethasone, even though I
am still on Coumadin.

Have you encountered any patients who have bloody discharge due to their
sinus medicine?

At any rate, thanks for asking about the blood. You caused me to consider
possible causes, and I appreciate that.

Regards.......

Just finished an irrigation. Used 5ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide, a pinch of
baking soda, a tiny pinch of salt, and 50ml of filtered water. I did this
because my sinuses were a little achy and slightly stuffed up today,
although my sinuses don't feel too bad. I kept my head down for about 5
minutes, allowing the mixture to seep deep into my sinuses.

There was mild burning, or stinging, in my sinuses that lasted for about a
minute or two. It was not severe and didn't really bother me too much. I had
to fight back the urge to sneeze several times. There was absolutely no
blood, but there was lots and lots of foam. There was no noticeable junk in
the discharge, just foam, this time.

Right now my sinuses are not aching, or uncomfortable, but they feel a
little stuffy from the irrigation. I also feel slightly like I am getting a
cold, but this is normal after I irrigate my sinuses, upside down, flooding
them. This is only a short time after I irrigated, so it is no surprise.

Do you have an opinion on the merits of this type of irrigation? Are there
any cautions or concerns that I should consider?

nose bleed from cortisone sprays is common. You can't ( shouldn't) use that if
you are getting bleeiding while on coumadin.
