Impossible to answer that without knowing just what germs are infecting
your sinuses.

Amoxicillin is a good first-line antibiotic because it has a broad
spectrum of coverage (works on lots of different germs) and it's cheap.

But whatever antibiotic your doctor prescribes, insist that he give you
AT LEAST 2 weeks' worth, preferably 3 weeks' worth.  One of the most
common mistakes is to prescribe too short a course of antibiotic and
have the infection flare up again after you run out of the med.

I have had several that did work, but one I have learned to stay away from is
Zithromax, or Z-pack. It's promoted as a quick cure, a five-day only treatment,
but it was after going for this quick cure that my sinus infection recurred and
then it was REALLY hard to get rid of it.

Zithromax can be effective against sinusitis--if you take it long
enough.  Had you taken it for a couple of weeks (i.e. several of those
"packs"), it might well have worked.

In general, you should be suspicious of any "packs" like Zithromax or
Medrol Dose-Pak.  A doctor needs to use his JUDGMENT as to how long to
take a given med.  Not rely on a one-size-fits-all course length.
