sinus rinse/ tear ducts

Hello.  This is my first post to the group.  I have had so much trouble
this winter and am too dry because of Sjogren's to take a lot of things
that would be helpful, so I have tried the sinus rinse bottle.   It
seems to help a bit, but somehow, in an effort to get the solution up
from the bottle, I am blowing the saline up into my tear ducts.  This
is real irritating to the ducts and eyes.  Since my tear ducts are
already narrow due to dry eyes, I would hate to irritate them further.

Has anyone else here had this problem?  Would purchasing a machine such
as the HydroPulse or Waterpik avoid the tear ducts or be more likely to
send the saline into them?

Thanks for any insights you have,
Charlotte

Yes, and it happens when you irrigate too forcefully.

Try squeezing the Sinus Rinse bottle until you get a stream that is only
an inch or so high.  That's how gently you need to irrigate.

Unfortunately with squeeze or gravity devices the change in pressure and
flow is difficult to regulate and does fluctuate. This is one advantage of a
mechanical irrigator where the pressure is maintained throughout the
irrigation at one setting.
If you are having difficulty with a squeeze system, try using  only the
upper two thirds of the bottle. Its the final 1/3 that is hard to control.

Thanks for the help.  I have ordered a Hydro-Pulse, which should help
regulate things.  I guess I am so desperate from lack of sleep that I
overdid the squeezing a bit.  It's very tempting to go back to the
Dristan spray, but the sinus issues were there then, too.   Things just
drained better.
