I was looking for a new saline solution.  The ones with preservatives
dry my sinuses more, and when I make my own, I am never sure if I am
contaminating myself more because of the suction back into the bottle.

Yesterday I was at Walmart, and saw something called Simply Saline.  It
is a saline solution in a pressurized can.  Was $4.oo.  It is working
great.  It has no preservatives, just Purified water and sodium
chloride.  It remains sterile throughout use.  It also says you can use
to irrigate.
Just thought someone might be able to benefit from this also.

Simply Saline, is that a brand or generic name from Walmart?

Works ok. very clean feeling. Too expensive to use regularly if you have any
significant amount of phlegm. Costs over 5.00 at Walgreens and it's very
easy to go through 3-4 containers a month. I use Simply Saline as an
occasional overnight or travel alternative to dragging my Hydopulse around.

btw- The small atomizer that comes free with Breathease packets also works
well for minor irrigating and you don't have to worry about suction back
into the bottle.

Thanks for the tip on the breathease bottle.

Yes, I am wondering how many bottles I will go thru a month.  But it is
convientent and so far working great for me and I find the fine mist
really soothing. It's a little cheaper at Walmart than Walgreens.  As
it is- I spend over $100 on prespription medicine for my sinuses so now
a few more, i guess.

Yes, aerosol does not need preservatives to stay uncontaminated.

There is a much cheaper alternative. Look in Wal-mart at contact lens
solutions. They have unpreserved saline in 12 oz aerosol cans. Their own
brand, Equate, sells for $1.88 for a twelve ounce can! What a price
difference--$1.88 for twelve ounces, versus $4.00 (in most stores more like
$6) for 1? ounces! Do the math!

The larger can is less convenient than the smaller, but much more
economical. You just turn your head to the side, and spray the saline into
the upper nostril. Repeat on other side. I've been doing this for quite
awhile, as an alternative to other irrigation types (such as Waterpik) that
I use.

For smaller bottles to carry with you, there is another kind of unpreserved
saline for contact lenses, that comes in a box with three 4 oz bottles.
(Therefore, also 12 oz total, but since these are bottles rather than
aerosol, they keep the individual bottle small, so it isn't open for too
many weeks.) Unisol is a brand name for this, and there are also generic
versions. Easy to carry in your bag or purse, to wash out your nose (or
hydrate it) away from home.
