To stop sinus infections, I flood my sinuses with peroxide and baking soda

After suffering with multiple sinus infections, year after year, for
decades, I experimented with flooding my nasal passages with a mixture of
diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt. In order to flood
my nasal passages and keep them flooded, I keep my forehead pointed
downward. I keep my forehead down for quite a while, hoping that the
anti-infective mixture can get to the infected area(s) within my sinuses and
nasal passages.
.
It works! I have been sinus infection free for about 3 years. I think that I
had chronic infection problems with my turbinates, so flooding my nasal
passages with the anti-infective mixture worked very well, for me, since the
infected areas were fairly easy to reach.
.
I have fully documented my experience and how I did it at Healthboards.com.
There are posts there by people who have tried my "upside down sinus
flooding" and have received either partial relief or total relief. There are
also posts there from those who it hasn't helped, and by those who don't
think that it is a good idea. I have no connection at all with Healthboards.
I use it because I consider it to be the best facility for discussing health
problems on the Internet.

I am concerned about what long-term effects this treatment might have.
I don't know what constantly flooding your upper respiratory tract with
hydrogen peroxide is going to do to the mucous membranes and the other
delicate structures.

Have you asked an ENT to scope you out and be sure everything is OK in
there?

I have to give credit to my ENTs for decades of suppying me with steriod
nasal sprays and antibiotics and for sinus surgery. They did the best that
they could, I guess. I wonder why ENTs are not suggesting some type of
peroxide/baking soda irrigation or flooding for recurring sinus infections
within the nasal passage area. Is it because they just don't know, or is
there a financial reason for keeping their patients in sinus misery all the
time? Is there more money to be made in carving up someone's sinuses, or
more money in curing sinus disease?

I have now gone over three years since I started flooding my sinuses with
diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt. I have done about
50 sinus floodings, or an average of less than TWO FLOODINGS PER MONTH, most
of them in the first year. My sinuses feel great. They are wide open and
comfortable. I am totally off steroid nasal sprays, or any other sinus meds.
Once in a while I need to use a tissue to wipe my nose, but I only have to
blow my nose perhaps once a week. My sense of smell is better.

Do you feel that I need to see an ENT so that I can ask him if I am OK? What
do I tell his receptionist? Do I ask for an appointment because my sinuses
are feeling great and I want to be placed back on steroid nasal sprays?
Perhaps I can ask for an antibiotic so it can be like the old times?

Actually, I understand your concern, and thanks for your question, but if
there is something wrong with my sinuses, then I hope that it continues to
be wrong FOREVER!

I'm concerned because you can snort NeoSynephrine or Afrin for years and
feel great too.  Until the day comes that you end up with an ulcerated
nasopharynx.

I agree completely. If it works for you, thats great.Lets not lead
anyone to believe it is some sort of medical secret or miracle.

Steve, thanks for your response!

It's now been over three years since I started the sinus floodings. How many
more years of doing an average of one flooding per month do you think it
might take to ulcerate my nasopharynx? I would think that chronic,
uncontrolled sinus infections would present more of a risk to the patient's
health.

I've had feedback from people, who have been to ENTs for many years, and
have been living with sinus pain and misery for years, and who have had
sinus surgery; who say that the sinus flooding with peroxide has made a huge
difference in their lives and has taken away either part, or all of their
pain and sinus misery.

Regardless of that, I am concerned about someone abusing the sinus
floodings. I hope that anyone who tries the sinus flooding, does it under a
doctor's supervision, and does not abuse the procedure by using too strong a
dose of peroxide, or by doing it too frequently, or when they don't have a
sinus infection.

I've been posting about my experience with sinus flooding for a little over
a year. I don't get paid for it. I don't make a cent. But, every once in a
while, I get feedback from someone out there, in this world, who thanks me
for saving them from a life of pain and misery.

I think to myself, "If I hadn't of gotten off my lazy arse, and took the
many hours to post about the sinus flooding, those people would still be in
misery. It would have been very selfish on my part."

Have you ever used hydrogen peroxide to treat a patient's sinus infection?
