After 2 colds this Fall I finally got a sinus infection.
And boy does it hurt!
i forgot that pain after 2 yrs of no infections.
My teeth and eye socket hurt so bad, when I remembered
something someone said about HUMMING breaking up and
relieving pressure in the sinuses,
I thought Id try using a "vibration device" on my sinuses and jaw.
It made me, at first, sneeze several times and then my nose started
dripping and now Im opened up.

Just passing this on.....

I'm glad it worked for you but for some people with marginally-attached retinas
etc. there might be a danger of the vibration causing the retina to detach or
some such untoward occurence.

As a life-long sinus sufferer, now in his late sixties, I have found
that I often get the same results with this technique.  Sometimes
vibrating the side on the nose or nostril will provoke a productive
sneeze but it usually gets fluids flowing out of my sinuses.  I rarely
use this technique alone.  Irrigation is my first resort but when
nothing else works, this is often effective.

It was a "Free with purchase of $100.00 or more" from Adam and Eve!
Hey! You asked!

Important to understand why this works.
At a certain frequency the mucus and the cliia are moved. Its like soldiers
marching in step over a bridge, at a certain frequency the bridge will vibrate.

To help you understand this better, read about the Flutter device - its like a
Kazoo that helps vibrate the chest.
If you get the right frequencey you shake up the thick mucus. You can do this
by humming. YOu can also purchase a 75 cents Kazoo and try that.
By placing your fingers along side your nose, it helps to find the best
frequency - low note or higher note of your humming.

Welcome back, Preesi!  It's been a long time!

Actually, specialists in lung disease have often prescribed a so-called
"Flutter Device" which sets up vibrations in your lungs to clear out the
phlegm down there.  These devices are used by people who have chronic
bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, etc.

So I'm not surprised that vibration would break up the congestion in the
sinuses too.

I lost most of my smell a few years ago, so I read anything that pretains to
smell.

But, this is too good to pass up!

[Don't go there, don't go there, don't go there....  :-) ]

My sense of smell did return--it took over 6 months after I stopped
using Zicam.

In the meantime, Zicam has been hit with a bunch of lawsuits from other
users of their product who lost their sense of smell too--some of them
permanently.

You know I bought some and never used it...
Something made me afraid to use it, then you said you lost your sense of
smell over it so I tossed it out.

Steve is correct again.
The flutter device sets a vibration that helps the lungs and might help the
nose.
You can try a kazoo and see if that helps - the lower the vibration in tone the
better.

Yes, humming oooommmmmmm can stimulate the cilia function.
