I have had 2 surgeries on my left side.  The last one was 15 years ago and I
have been mostly pain=free until this fall.  I am now on my third tx of
antibiotics.  I am sitting here with a throbbing pain on the left side of my
face, waiting for my medicine to kick in.

I am taking Augmentin, which seems to slowly be helping.  The doc x-rayed me
last Monday and he couldn't believe how awful my leftt cheek sinus looks. He
wants to do a CT scan and he was talking about surgery because he said he
didn't want me to get into the shape I was in 15 years ago when he did
surgery on me.  I had tons of polyps, one the size of a silver dollar.  He
fears that may be the case again.

I am irrigating with a plain salt, baking soda solution that really helps a
bit.  I am also drinking fresh ginger root tea with honey like crazy for the
congestion.

Forgive me for jumping into your group.  I have lurked off and on for a long
time and maybe posted once or twice a couple of years ago.  Until now, I
really haven't had any serious problems lately.  I guess all good things
must come to an end.

When I feel like this, I have absolutely no energy.  It takes every ounce I
do have to function and take care of my family.  I have a wonderful MIL who
sends supper when she knows I feel bad.  It's been so many years since I
have needed someone to do that.  She went through the other two surgeries
with me, taking me back and forth to the doctor when I had complications
from the first.

Anyway, I could go on and on.  Sorry.  My name is Vicki, by the way.  I
guess I am introducing myself and venting a bit at the same time.

Thanks for your time,

Vicki

I had extensive surgery 7 years ago and was doing pretty well till
about 18 months ago.

One sinus started blocking off and getting polyps and infection. Put me
on clindamycin and I started feeling better immediately - but the sinus
didn't open. Added cipro and topical cipro.

I'm allergic to EDTA so the topical burned - and after 3 months on the
combo I was getting to where it was tough to drive.

Got off everything figuring on surgery after the first of the year and
started downhill. Got desperate and dissolved a capsule of clindamycin,
diluted it, and used it in my nose. Helped immediately. Talked the
doctor into trying a last ditch try at topicals and got Sinuspray's
combination of clindamycin and tobramycin. Inflammation near sinus
opening went to zero in about a week - and in three weeks the area
looks like it was never infected....

Worth a shot.

Welcome!  This newsgroup is totally unmoderated; feel free to "jump in"
any time as so many others do.

One thing I noticed you didn't mention is whether you have tried to find
out the cause of your recurrent sinusitis.  Have you been tested for
allergies, immune disorders, etc.?  Did you start to live and/or work in
a polluted area?

Since you hadn't suffered with sinusitis as a child, there has got to be
a reason why you started to develop it as an adult.

I developed my sinusitis not long after I moved to a neighborhood which
I later discovered had high levels of sulfur dioxide in the air.  I
immediately noticed my nose was stuffy but I didn't know why at the time.

The website
www.scorecard.org

tells you what the pollution level is in your area from the EPA's own
monitoring stations.  Just enter your Zip code.

Hi, yes I was tested for allergies and was found to have an allergy to mold
spores.  I was being treated for this then our medical insurance changed and
would no longer pay for the injections, which were very expensive.  I
haven't even checked into our coverage now.  It's worth bringing up to the
doctor when I see him again, probably Monday.  When I got married, I moved
into a farm community with cows, horses, all sorts of livestock around and
the smells.  I am sure there are tons of mold spores all around me!  I used
to joke and tell my husband I must be allergic to him.

Thanks for the welcome,

Vicki

Are you taking anything for your allergies--steroid nasal sprays and/or
antihistamines?

It's all those rolls in the hay that cause it.  :-)

Oh that is funny!!!!  I like that.  Yes, to your question about the nasal
spray and antihistamines.  I use Rhinocort and have been taking Maxiphen DM.
It seems to help.
