Can anyone give me an idea of what I may have occuring in my nasal passages
/ sinuses?

I never get a runny nose, nor do I ever get discharge. I do wake up every
morning with 'heaviness' abov the eyes, and if I bend over it throbs. I get
headaches consistently - and a lot of facial pain, jaw pain and also
sometimes pain on other areas of the head. Normally to one side.I also feel
sick when it's bad.

I know I'm sensitive to dust and that this triggers a reaction (starts with
a slightly runny nose ... but this usually clears quickly and the headaches
start).

My doctor is referring me to a specialist and saying that I may need my
sinuses drilling out to improve drainage .. but I'm confused .. to drain
what? My nose never runs, but it is always blocked. My main symptom is head
/ facial pain .. in fact, aside from the blocking issue .. that is the only
symptom.

Would surgery really make any difference? Or is there another way to stop
the aches? I use benadryl a lot as I also get daily hives, but I'm not sure
this actually helps the dust reaction / allergy.

I also get nightly 'arrythmias' ... when I go to bed and lay down, my heart
does funny rhythms ... I don't know if all these are related or not?

I have read on the hive forums that thyroid problems can lead to hiving, and
I've also read that thyroid problems can sometimes lead to arrythmia .. is
there any chance that sinus problems are related also to thyroid problems?

Apologies for the long winded post :)

You can't say from symptoms alone.    You need a CT scan.

Where exactly?

You probably or may have TMJ - check that out with your dentist.  It can easily
cause other pain.

Running is an early stage.  Blocking is a later stage.

You can try steroid sprays (Flonase or Nasonex are good).

It's premature to talk of surgery until the specialist gets a CT scan

Yes  - especoially low thyroid.  What is your TSH number?

Tony... Nausea and vomiting went hand in hand when I had pain emanating
from my frontals.

.. Have your Doc. do a simple blood test for the thyroid. Many odd-ball
symptoms can stem from a defective thyroid. The arythmias sound more in
tune with "hyper"- thyroidism. Try holding your hand out front with the
fingers separated. Do some of the fingers shake or quiver? Do you feel
like you're constantly on an adrenaline rush? -- If so, it's probably
"hyper".

Is the sinusitis and thyroid problems related? Good question. ...I was
diagnosed as being extremely hyper 2 years ago. Was slated for the
radioactive drink to kill off the thyroid.  ...The symptoms cleared up
by themselves. Had my Dr. scratching his head.  ...My thyroid is
currently functioning normal.    ...Jon

It's best to get the actual TSH number, not just the laboratory conclusion.

Okay, I'll be sure to ask for this .. thank you. Will this give a better
indicator for certain things?

Just for thyroid.  But laboratory ranges are often out of date.   More
stringent criteria were recently approved.

Other things worth getting are white blood cell counts and morphology (to check
for immune status) and fasting coba;amin (B12) levels (which also can affect
immune status).
