As most everyone here knows, damn near every nasal spray you can find
OTC or via prescription contains the dreaded preservative benzalkonium
chloride, which many studies have noted that it alone can aggravate
the exact symptoms that these nasal sprays are designed to relieve.

This is just freakin' insane.

It seems like many of the nasal spray formula's might actually be
quite beneficial, where it not for the preservative.

Here's a breif snip from one of the studies at the websites listed
below that pretty much tells the story:

Benzalkonium chloride induces mucosal swelling, which explains why the
presence of this preservative in a decongestant spray aggravates
rhinitis medicamentosa

What can we do to get this nasty stuff off the market? There has
simply got to be another preservative that could be easily
substituted.

Simple saline has no benzalkonium. Also you can make your own saline and change
once a week.
Breathe.ease XL has no preservative . See

iJah...I totally agree with you! I have Samters along with this sinus
problem and am allergic to most addivtives, preservatives, colorants. Most
of the meds I need to take have these in them so as they help me they also
cause problems. Go figure. Hope your doing well. Stay in touch will ya?

Hello,
That is how it works, sweety: while "they" are making you
think "they" are curing you, "they" are setting you up for
the really big one. Let dead dogs lie, or "they" will call
you an "insurgent" then assassinate you . . . (:

What is "interesting" is that many "natural" nasal sprays claim to kill
bacteria and can prove it. They are right, it is the benzalkonium or mertholate
preservative that is killing hte bacteria. Unfortunately the "natural product"
is not doing it and the benzalkonium can have a negative effect.

solution? make you own saline.
