I've been irrigating now for about a year and a half, which has helped
my sinuses some. However, I still have a problem with sinus pluggage
when I lay down. Within a matter of a couple of minutes after laying
down, my sinuses will plug right up. When I get up, I'll be lucky if my
sinuses clear up without extensive blowing or the need for sudaphed. Is
anyone else out there experiencing this? Is there anything else I can do?
Also, my sinus problem seems to be owrse during the winter or the colder
months. If I go outside, my sinuses clear up fairly well on a cold day.
As soon as I go indoors, they plug right up again. Again, I was
wondering if anyone else was experiencing this and if there was
something I could do to help alleviate the problem.
As it is now, when I sleep, I'm going nuts having to sleep with my mouth
wide open just to breathe. During the colder months, I have tried using
a humidifier in the bedroom to help matters out.
Any information would be greatly appreicated.
Thank you.

Mine are the worst in the winters and when the wind is blowing outside.
Seasons change too. (sinus headache starts)
Upper respiration infections and inflamed sinus membranes.
MD had to give me an antibiotic and the last time Clarinex at night only
for 7 days.
MD said for me to take Claritin for my allergies and my husbands MD told
him the same.

I bet you are quite allergic or sensitive to dust.

Your bet would be right. Anytime my wife or I cleans the house and we
kick up the dust, my sinuses go nuts.

I am too.
I eventually found a solution of sorts - sit by an open window. Even with the
temperature in the 40's at least, this can be done provided you have enough
heaters going.

You could be allergic to house dust mites. P'raps think about allergy
testing and immunity injections. In the meantime, try burning eucalyptus
oil and keep some in a small tray under your bed. Will help keep the
little critters at bay.

This is really interesting. Your symptoms there are identical to mine. I'm
allergic to housedust mite, and hoovering is the best way to guarantee a
huge sinus headache. I have to have all the doors and windows open, and I
make sure I only hoover when I know I can hoover and be out for a few hours.
I just bought some air filters which supposedly destroy mould and house dust
mite to an 85% efficiency. I have two in the lounge and one in the bedroom
on 24 hours a day. The curtains have come down, in their place are thin ones
that can be hooked up and down and hotwashed weekly. The floor men are
coming in about two weeks to put laminate down. The sofa was consigned to
the garage and wipeable mock leather suite was bought.
In short, I am doing everything humanly possible to keep the dust mite at
bay.
While it may seem extreme, it comes after 30 years of problems, culminating
in a week long attack where I literally was paralysed by pain and sickness -
I couldn't move far enough to get my daughter to school, or to cook, or to
actually do anything. As a single parent, it effectively stops everything.
Thank God my family were supportive enough to whisk my daughter away - I
literally spent the week immobile, laid on the stairs as it was too painful
to sit or lay down flat. As you all know the feeling, that week seemed like
a year. :(
I've also stopped wearing wool and jackets where humanly possible in favour
of cotton and things I can hot wash.
The good thing ... I'll be able to report on how effective this is ... as I
know it's dust for me that's the usual trigger. Fingers crossed!!
The cold for me seems to be another trigger though, if I go out for too
long, it also seems to irritate pain wise, but conversely it clears the
passages somewhat.
I was interested to hear about burning Eucalyptus .. I hadn't heard of that.
I had heard of breathing it in with hot water, does this help?
