Some of you may remember me.

After two failed courses of antibiotics, about two months ago I
started a one month course of KLARICID XL (Clarithromycin), and
steroids. I had all my sinuses almost completely flooded and my chest
was feeling very cold all the time, and would not let me sleep at
night.

As it happens often after antibiotics, my situation improved and my
ENT was quite pleased with how clean my sinuses looked. No surgery
then, we hoped.

I have been for about two weeks reasonably well, but feeling sensitive
to cold and always producing clear mucus, sometimes too much.

Now I am back to the same old thing, mucus from the sinuses with
traces of yellow infection, my chest feeling miserably cold, (I just
cannot feel warm no matter how much clothing I put on), and a feeling
of having an energy sapping permanent flu.

I fear that chronic bronquitis of some other pulmonary problem may
develop if I don't take more drastic action. And it seems there is
only one course of action left, surgery. My third one.

My ENT was very adamant in trying to avoid surgery at all costs. It
always causes damage to the normal functioning of the sinuses, he
says.

I hate surgery, I tend to lose lots and lots of blood and takes me
months to recover. And it seems that it is an exercise of lower and
lower marginal returns every time.

But what can I do? After a few years of not thinking much about some
"little inconvenience up my nose" I am just realising how fierce this
beast can be.

... oh well, another batch of low quality time..

Sorry for the tone of my writing, I usually am a far more optimistic
fellow.

My symptoms were similar to yours -- while on the antibioitics things would
improve but once I got off of them the stuffiness, mucus, post-nasal drip and
headaches would eventually return. After my last round of broad-spectrum
antibioitics (levaquin, sp?) I started taking probiotics with good success.  I
am
still taking them daily as a precaution and to help the good bacteria
reestablish
themselves in my GI tract. No more headaches and my mucus has remained
clear and thin.  I also use the Hydropulse.

David

what drugs/medications are you, have you been taking, exactly?

some meds they give to help with sinus problems  and even one of the
newer Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Mobic) can actually
trigger or contribute to the development of bronchitis from what I've
been reading lately.

Please get a second opinion from another ENT.  Functional endoscopic
sinus surgery, if done properly and conservatively, shouldn't cause
significant damage to the normal functioning of the sinuses.  Bilateral
antrostomy doesn't do anything but widen out the sinus ducts that are
already there.

Believe me, I know how you're feeling.
