Someone posted here that MRI is prefferable to CT for diagnosising sinus
disease.
We never order an MRI for Sinus Diagnosis because
a. It is too sensitive . Shows a spot of mucus as terrible disease
b. doesn't tell us the condition of the bonsy septa
c. useless for any type of surgery
d. simply of no value.
Afer the CT, if we need furtner information re a fungal infection, then the MRI
of the Sinus might be done as this is of diagnostic help.
With the high cost of medicine already, it is pointless to do a test - MRI of
the sinuses if it is not going to give you useful information.
Re headaches: There are certain defintitions of headaches that needs to be
elaborated. If you define a Migraine as a vascular spasm (usually the aura)
followed by a significant vascular dilatation, then you realize there are many
other kinds of headache - cervical, muscular, sinus pressure, pre-menstrual,
menstrual, etc.
It is important to realize that there are mnay triggers for migraine including
smelliy cheeses and red wine.
Many Migraine patients are benefttted by shower excercise - hard shower to back
of neck, gently rotate head side to side daily. They may train the blood
vessles not to be so spastic.
You can also make a mighraine headach: apply cold to the back of the neck. when
it is really cold , suddenly apply heat to that area. You will get a migraine.
Common to scuba divers - come up from the cold, sit with hot sun on their neck
- get a migraine type headache.

Recently, a number of folks on this NG have reported that their ENTs do
a CT scan but do not do nasal endoscopy.
I do not believe a CT scan is a substitute for nasal endoscopy.
What say you?

Hello,
I have been going to ENT's before they were invented,
and none of them used either . . . When i did recently
tell my ENT, who is older than i, to use the scope, i
got a Staph infection from it - so there. The last visit
to his office i wouldnot let him touch me, so that is that.

Steve, as always is correct, nasal endoscopy should be done. However CT does
give important information.
Still the good history and physical makes most diagnoses.

Hello,
I really donto know what it is, however i get
the feeling this spammer is interested in
selling his product which is so poorly
designed it cannot be sterilized, thus self
pollutes, and even gives victims of the
fungus/bacteria plunger electrical shocks.
This apparatus he huksters can forcefully
plunge the bacteria and fungus in your nasal
passage up into your eyeball and brain area.
Ask yourself this question: once i have
forcefully plunged the crap in, how do i
plunge it out. Thus i donot feel he has our
best interest at heart; as a matter of fact
i get the feeling he could care less whether we
live, suffer or die, because now he is telling
us, from the looks of things, that the possibly
slum area from which he functions doesnot
hire anyone capable of ever learning how to
properly read an MRI, and since we are just
the goyim, that is good enough for us.
I will get to the "migraine" someday,
however this is a sinus news group
and has nothing to do with sinus
problems.
