Ayjay,
You have a smart doctor. Blood in the urine can be caused by
various types of kidney disorders. There are other causes and
and (like your doctor said), a nephrologist (kidney specialist)
can figure out the cause of the blood in the urine. What is
your creatinine score (on your most recent blood test)? If
it's above normal limits or the "expected range"--that could
mean that you MAY have kidney problems. I am not a doctor.

Hi there, One symptom of kidney problems is 'gravel', not a full blown
kidney stone, but little smaller ones which can irritate and even tear
up the male urethra, which is very very narrow. Kidney stones are
caused by calcification, so my doctor told me over 20 years ago when I
was 18 not to eat the following:
red meat
butter
rhubarb
tea
dairy products
Try it for a week or two and see.
The irritation can also be causing you to 'strain' when you pee,
thinking that you hve not quite finished yet, sort of like cystitis.
My cat had that, for the same reasons, kidney gravel. Get yourself
checked out by a kidney doctor, because even a low grade untreated
infection can, over time, diminish kidney function and lead to eventual
failure. Happened to my boss.
best of luck!
