Hey Guys,

I'm wondering what my next option is going to be, and I'm determined
that it's going to be antibiotics.

I ran into this quote from Dr. Feliciano,  in regard to my "urethritis"
symptoms:

Norfloxacin (Lexinor) is an antibiotic effective against N. gonorrheae
in a
single dose of 800 mg. and 200-400 mg. twise a day for 5-7 days as
recommended by the manufacturer for non-specific infection. However,
the
cure rate of single antibiotics given with or without prostatic massage
is
at most 38% only.

My symptoms are a very mild "urethritis" but nevertheless madenning,
that have never come up positve. An overall soreness extending from my
prostate into my penis, with most symptoms coming directly from the
penis area. It's a mild burning, itching feeling with an occasional
extreme stinging sensation that might happen once a week or every other
week. Bang, there it is, a reminder that no you're not imagining
something. There's something there.

I would take Levaquin with full relief while I was taking it - 2 weeks
of 500 mg, and then right at the end,  seeminly as my own immune system
was knocked out of commission by the antibiotics, I would get a
reminder. "We're still here, buddy." I would stop treatment and then
would feel major symptoms coming back, with stinging and pain all along
the urinary tract. As my immune system recovered, the symptoms would go
away again, back to the regular slight reminder symptoms. "No, you're
not all right. It's not in your imagination. We're still here, chump."
It feels like I have a continuing slight infection. All tests of course
come out negative. But from what I've read they can't culture a  large
percentage of the bacteria out there.

So, I'm desparately wondering, perhaps naively, what my next drug of
choice will be. I tried upping the dosage with Levaquin. I took it for
two weeks, successfully with no symptoms with a higher concentration -
500 mg every 18 hours for two weeks. And bang, right as I ran out of
prescription the symptoms came flowing back, and I knew I was cooked.
This had only creating an ever stronger bacteria if that's what's
ailing me.

Thanks, Toort,

for that reference. Perhaps I should look into some herbal remedies
that also have anti-inflamatory properties. Mucho appreciated.

I think I"ve nuked this thing already with three two week courses. My
thought was, maybe I needed to extend the treatment.

Here's the clincher. My symptoms have always been as a result of sexual
contact, not out of the blue symptoms. This last unprotected contact
was three years ago. And god help me, I wish I could believe that this
was non-bacterial because it sure feels like it. But they can never
find anything.

Welcome to prostatitis,

Courtney

In case you're not aware, Feliciano has been know to be a quack for years
and I would not take anything he has to say seriously.

Here is a link to discussions exposing him for the fraud he is...

Thanks, Razor, for that bit of information.

In my opinion, you need to stay off antibiotics. They are not usually a
cure for chronic prostatitis and are probably only making you feel
better because of their anti-inflammatory effect. You could probably
achieve the same thing with large doses of Advil or Aleve. These
antibiotics kill all of the friendly bacteria in your intestines which
leads to yeast overgrowth in your GI tract and prostate area, which is
possibly the reason for your discomfort. It's a viscous cycle.

Thanks Razrbak,  The risk is so high that you're also only going to
create a super bug.
punkatank - 01 Feb 2006 01:09 GMT
SUPERBUG?IF YOUR DR HAS TESTED YOUR URINE AND YOUR BLOOD
AND NOTHING SHOWED UP,WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU HAVE A SUPER BUG?
the problem you have now is not a superbug or any kind of bug.
you are suffering from deferred pain from your bowels.
your intestinal flora is way out of whack and it is already
causing you pain.
i could tell you how to fix the problem but i will wait a while,
however here is a hint
cinnamin, digestive advantage ibs, no carbonated sodas, and lay off
grains
and you will get better

Interesting suggestion, Punkatank,

I eat oats like they're going out of style - every morning, my ususal
dose of oatmeal with rice milk, Verryyyy interesting.

I've certainly taken every antibiotic known to man, including a high
concentration of lavaquin - roughtly 750 mg per day for two weeks.
Sooo, not a lot of hope out there through these means.

My good urologist in Boston was always telling me. Your piercing pain,
on what you think is the end of your penis is actually referred from
your prostate. That's so freakin' hard to believe when it just doesn't
seem to be coming from there.

Well, no choice but to look at alternatives out there - digestive
advantage ibs, huh, and cinnamin. Wow, I was just eating granola a few
minutes ago. Dog-on-it, i'll try anything at this point. I've even
considered going to one of these prostate clinics, that are sprouting
up all over the country to get to the bottom of this.
